Gelatin (not Jell-O… which is a brand) comes from skin, bones, and tendons from animals like cows and pigs.
There’s another substance that comes from seaweed, called agar, which is also used for desserts, but also to make agar — media to grow bacteria and stuff.
I dunno what else it’s for, but I’m sure you can google it.
