Considering they’re cutting the F-22 program because next-gen fighters are too expensive it wouldn’t surprise me if they cut the F-35 as well. The budget crunchers are looking to see which planes and bombers get the most bang for their buck and they consider the F-15, F-16, and F-18 to be far superior in this regard.
As far as comparisons go, the F22 can carry twice as many air-to-air missiles internally as the F35 can. I really hate to compare the two since one is still in development but the F22 can cruise at Mach 1.8 with a max of Mach 2.25 and the maximum speed for the F35 is listed as Mach 1.6+. The F22 also has a greater range than the F35 estimates to date.
Tbh, we need to work on this who area as much as possible because if we ever get in a *fair fight with a *real opponent they’ll beat the crap out of us if we use past-gen aircraft.
