SpectatorThe notorious hacker group Anonymous has started attacking Sony for it’s crappy business and legal practices. PSN and Sony’s websites were very spotty yesterday and Anonymous is claiming they are the culprit. Sony originally attributed it to sporadic maintenance, but Anonymous announced their intentions before it started… Clearly a ddos attack.
After reading how they have destroyed peoples lives who mess with Anonymous, I wouldn’t want to be working for Sony right now SCEA.. Just ask Aaron Barr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Barr).

SpectatorAs of late, Anon has transformed itself from a regular (albeit large) trolling group into a far-left attack group. I thought their attacks on businesses that stopped supporting Wikilinks was particularly distasteful. This tiff with Sony isn’t politically motivated, but I take it they are using their regular methods. Really, I think their influence is overstated. In the past, they have launched DOS attacks on websites, but the sites usually bounce back within a few hours. I’ve read a few articles about their activism and the news media (rightly) doesn’t take them seriously. The Aaoron Barr affair was a rare case of them having an influence on things, though I’ve heard theories that they had nothing to do with it, but either way, their attacks on businesses usually come to nothing.
Still, Sony seems to be run by jackass. Guess there’s nobody to root for on this one. Smart money’s on Sony winning.

SpectatorEither way, they scare the hell out of me.. and btw I don’t approve of their support for Wikileaks. They’ve stopped attacking the PSN.. thankfully. It was hurting users at the same time. Maybe they should have planned a bit better.
They’ve also posted these demands of sony:
- Sony must allow for end-user modification of the PS3, as was available prior to the 3.21 firmware update.
- Sony must end any attempts to bring legal action to alter a product they own.
- Sony must not pursue legal action against any collected IP address.
