MemberOK, so after the meetin today, some of the fellow freshman gave me some ideas. So that everyone can see these ideas I would like for people to post ideas under this forums. Ideas for tshirts, tshirt designs, videos, possible sponsors, something you would like to help out with, or anything you would like to learn about. If you have any idea, we are open for suggestions.

SpectatorThere are already T-shirt designs in the forums. I still have designs on my computer it just never really took off enough to invest money into it when it was brought up in a meeting. I will go talk to Simply Tees and possibly make one for myself and let everyone see what could be.

Spectatormy idea would be to have a steamlined position for the social/community side of things. one person who keeps up with the wcu gaming facebook, moderates the forums, puts the pics on the sites in a timely manner, and is the head of talkin to and getting sponsors. i’d literally jump at a chance to do that job. i love the community side of it and would feel i could do a good job organizing it all to make things more effective.
we also need more of a presence like at vally ballywhoos we need a booth. we need people advertising meeting and encouraging as many people as they can to go. we need to basicially pimp ourselves out there and get our name out and get people interested basically if not i feel that we will continue to shrink.
for me i know i want to make things bigger and better for the club. that means we need numbers money and sponsors.
if the community/social manager position is created that person would be responsible for the sponsors. getting them and keeping in contact with them to maintain sponsorship.
as for numbers we need to be focusing on games that have high turn out if ppl love black ops then we need to have it….period if ppl love starcraft it needs to be there period. its about giving the people wat they want to play. and with the numbers we will get the money. with the moeny we will be able to fund more projects in the future that we want to explore.

I srly just bursted in lulz..
keep on it catamount, bring it up in the meeting.
I like the concept behind the community/social manager position, some of the rolls should tie into the current marketing administrator roll.

I don’t think creating a new position is the answer. Just seems like an excuse to be lazier. You have pretty much described the duties of the marketing admin. I feel if the exec staff balanced the sponsor load it would be simple. Everything has already been done/laid out as far as who, what, when, where, and how to deal with sponsors but it just doesn’t get done. Per the constitution the president has a large roll in obtaining sponsors but he does not communicate well with other staff (he does not visit the forums), so how do you expect it to get done if no one knows the progress? This is basically all falling on waffle. So waffle needs to bring it to kaz’s attention or he should delegate to other execs. The facebook and forums are easily managed by past and current execs and it gets done IMO. If this position was created what would the marketing admin do?
Also, has the sponsor contacting even been started yet for the April lan? I seen a post with thor mentioning getting 1 sponsor but what about others? This needs to start today!

SpectatorI’ve already begun to send out emails for sponsors after the last LAN. I have only heard back from Red Bull asking for more information to help them make a final decision.
March 20, 2011 at 1:53 am #107940Thor
SpectatorNoDice can you shine any light on who the red bull sponsor may be or if there is even one anymore at this school. Have not seen the red bull car in a long time. As far as what Catamount was saying about a PR style position sounds like someone who would work with the Marketing Admin, so if you want to talk with aWaffle maybe you two can work together but that is up to him. As far as the last meeting goes I would like to have one after the LAN or maybe have a BBQ like we use to have to end out the semester.
maybe i should read all posts and not basically say what aMerrill just wrote >

Its in the private club discussion in the sponsors sticky. Yes we still have a personal contact.

AMerrill i described a couple duties from a few positions(from my understanding) seeing as how they are all related duties and should all be done together i dont see how giving one person those one sets of duties would be an excuse to be lazier it would make things more focused. bc the person who is dong the social management would be able to go to sponsors and be like here is what we are doing and here is what we have planned nad here are pictures (and even videos?) of us doing the things nad this is the kind of turnout we are getting nad this is how we are improving things. it makes things more streamlined or focused. from the people i have heard from until dustin took over control as web master the forum was in danger of being shut down. the facebook from what i have seen doesnt have much on it. it took a long time for the pictures from the last LAN to get up. from what i see people are either already lazy or arent doing their part. these things are so inter-related that having other people work on them ALONG WITH other duties is silly. putting them all together in one position makes them streamlined and focused and lets someone put time nad effort into the thing we have to show for sponsors.
edit: upon review of my post i see that it may look hostile when read. that is not my intention i am just trying to have healthy debate.

You are correct, hence why I said “lazier”. My point was that we already have a position for the duties you have described it’s just the work isn’t being done. The last few years of execs have not done there part which is why pics don’t get up in time, why we don’t have sponsors, why we have low LAN attendance, why we have low meeting attendance, etc…the list goes on. So the answer is not to create another position for one we already have.
I will mention that it seems that we have a better exec group this go around and the club appears to be moving in a better direction than before.

You’re like the 3rd freshman to post such a comment. Who is telling people this? After the last attempt by WCU’s IT to delete our website we moved it to a professional datacenter out of the state. The only way the forums could be “shut down” is if someone broke into the datacenter and took a hammer to the server.

Every exec has admin access to it and every member can post there. Facebook just isn’t a great marketing tool, never was and never will be. It takes way too much effort to do it successfully as opposed to the traditional website/message board/mass mailer approach.

Instructions for uploading the pictures were posted the Monday after the event.
You’ve essentially hit the nail on the head. Being an exec in a club like this isn’t easy. It used to be that when an exec was unable to do their job they would recruit others to help or resign and let someone else take over but in recent years they’ve been allowed to completely drop off radar and the job just doesn’t get done. This is partly the P/VPs fault, as it’s their job to make sure everyone else does their job, but it’s mainly voters fault for continuingly putting their friends in positions they weren’t suited for and then allowing them to keep the position due to popularity rather than the merits of their performance. From the way recruitment has been going the last few months there’s a real chance that these destructive trends can be reversed. Unfortunately, because they’ve gone on for so long the next set of execs will have their work cut out for them trying to recoup the losses.

SpectatorIt seems the forums are getting more active! Also while were on the topic of ideas what about streaming games from the LANs.
March 20, 2011 at 8:34 pm #107953austinImbleau
SpectatorI have an idea. May already be done, is there a place on the forums where I can find all the members names (real) , pictures of them (preferable) , what console(s) they have and their Tags/fav game?
I don’t know anybody really and it’d be a nice basis for new people, considering the welcome topics don’t seem to get much attention
March 20, 2011 at 9:49 pm #107958Dustin Faulkner
MemberThere is a profile link when you click on their names. Confidentiallity is something we probably don’t want to invade. But, it is the user’s option to post their pic and info. It has been promoted at the last 2 meetings to post info about yourself.

SpectatorDustin, do you think we would be able to get a stream going of the LAN?

Spectatorhey waffle informed me the other night that we have a twitter. it would be great if ppl who are twitter active follow the wcugaming twitter and tweet at it every once in awhile!
