SpectatorIt has been announced and confirmed that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PC will NOT have dedicated servers. It will instead be similar to the idiocy we see in multiplayer console games.
They’re just dumbing down our games because they think PC gamers are as dumb as the console kids (no offense; I assure you). I don’t think it’s going to work. Servers are a HUGE aspect of PC fps games. Nothing better than becoming a regular at a server, and playing with a group of bros you’re familiar with everyday. Matchmaking is horrible, and barbaric by comparison.
I haven’t CANCELLED my preorder…but I have since downgraded my preorder to the basic version of MW2, instead of my prestige edition. Its not worth the extra price.
And get this…this amazed me…no dedicated server support, however, CoD:MW2 for PC will feature VALVE ANTI CHEAT as opposed to punkbuster, which I suppose is a good thing….but thats about the only good thing.
It’s all here:

So….*edited*. *edited* *edited* *edited* *edited*Y *edited* FUUUCCCCCKKKK!!

Except the potential to attract a community from it.
Tbh, this doesn’t add up. This eliminates all potential professional gameplay and any communities that would have supported it are now holding off. There will be no mods, no customized servers. I predict this aspect going away real fast, either that or the PC support for the game will go away even faster. No one wants to play in a vanialla server they can’t control and no responsible game developer should even consider it an option.
I’m glad I didn’t pre-order the game. Infinity Ward just told us which of the two platforms the game was designed around and it obviously wasn’t the PC. This once again proves the old saying that games can only be successful on PC or console, never both. It’s a shame though, the game had such promise in the PC world.

Nothing of value? Am I to assume you’re mentally retarded in some way?

Not exactly…
Call of Duty 4 was amazing on both platforms respectively.
Left 4 Dead, a game that has BOTH matchmaking AND dedicated servers, was developed in a year. MW2 has been in development for what…2 years now? Whats IW’s excuse?

SpectatorGood thing I’m buying it for PS3 anyways.
I want MW2 for a fun game to pick up and play with PSN friends, not something that I’m gonna play competitively. Those days of competitive gaming are over, lol.
<<<<<< TFC and CS1.6 CHAMPEEN.
(not anymore, I suck now =\)

You gotta admit tho…PC users got screwed.
October 18, 2009 at 8:31 pm #94831rcon_l@nce
SpectatorYeah, you guys do get screwed, not gonna lie.
I’m sure there will be ways around it.
Like Garena / Hamatchi / w/e people use now.
October 18, 2009 at 8:41 pm #94833MasterP
SpectatorYeah but 99% of people aren’t going to install a 3rd party matchmaking client. The majority of people those attract on the PC side are those with pirated copies.
I imagine that once they realize how expensive it is to maintain a free matchmaking server farm and how big a hassle it is to frequently update the game they’ll go back to the old way. Until then I predict massive disappointment with the online aspect of this game for the PC.
I mean hell, even Halo2-Vista has a dedicated server.

SpectatorI really like matchmaking on the 360, you can always team up with friends and battle it out. So team play is still there.
I do understand that reason behind being *edited*ed off though for PC. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to matchmake.
October 19, 2009 at 3:35 pm #94915Shingi
SpectatorMatchmaking is horrible in general. I hate nothing more than logging into a game and playing with a bunch of randoms that just quit mid-way through the match. Just look at GoW2. Gears of War was awesome (no matchmaking) Gears of War 2 has died so fast it isn’t even funny (match making + ranking system). I feel it’s gonna have the same affect on MW2 for the PC.
October 19, 2009 at 4:49 pm #94923Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorYou can obviously tell that MW2 was designed from the ground-up for consoles, despite CoD originally being a PC-only franchise. I can understand them not wanting to be pirated and incorporating Steam a bit more, but no dedicated servers just overall screws too many communities over from PC standpoints. This change has honestly moved MW2 from “Day 1 Purchase” category to the “Pass” department.
October 19, 2009 at 6:11 pm #94929Derrick LeBrocq
SpectatorThe good side to this is the devs of the Battlefield series have confirmed that BOTH the PC version of BF1943 and BF:Bad Company 2 will have BOTH matchmaking AND dedicated server support, as well as co-op, much like Left 4 Dead.

which quite nicely sums up what been established so far…. but what i dont get is the $60.00 price tag… what happened to the good $40.00 price tag?????

They’re treating MW2 like a console game and consider the PC version to be a “conversion”. In their minds, if the PC had a lower pricetag then more people would likely get it on the PC instead of console.

in another forum is said like what you stated, I always assumed the $10-$20 on console games to be royal payments to microsoft or sony, or NINTENDO. and ports from console to pc caused so many controvesies… because some of the content in those console games are Microsoft, Sony, or NINTENDO property…
October 25, 2009 at 1:41 am #95520MasterP
SpectatorThey’re not. They can arbitrarily set the cost of the game to be whatever they want. It costs maybe $1 to make and distribute the game, everything beyond that is profit.
October 25, 2009 at 3:34 am #95534Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorActually Mitch that’s technically not true. If you read this article it clearly states that the cost to make the game, send it to the production company(s), and then send it to the distributor makes it so that game companies are only getting about $25-35 back and that barely covers their overhead.
October 25, 2009 at 12:51 pm #95559MasterP
SpectatorOh I understand the full cost would require the high price but I wasn’t including the production cost, just the physical cost. Since this game was created for a console, the conversion costs for the PC should have been significantly less than that required to charge $60 for the game.
Considering the fact that this is the first $60 FPS game in a LONG time I imagine the extra cost isn’t associated with any sort of overhead or production overshoot. It’s mearly so that both versions cost the same and profits are high. There’s really no other explaination for it.
October 25, 2009 at 9:58 pm #95609Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorConsidering how PC games all have stayed at the same cost of $50 I would only be able to agree with you. I don’t know why MW2 is $60 compared to its $50 predecessor.

End of discussion.
