ParticipantI’m going to see which os I want to run next…since I’ve used my xp cd key too many times in 120 days it is not allowing me to activate windows because I built a new computer and ran my windows cd key a few amount of times due to trying to get everything to run correctly. So here I am wondering if anyone has a vista key for me to try vista out before I see how good Windows 7 is.

ParticipantIf it’s down to Vista or Win7, just go with Win7.
Btw, it has nothing to do with 120 days. You’ll have to call MS to activate that key for the remainer of your life. Never activate until everything’s right, you have 30 days for a reason.

ParticipantI do have a valid xp key…I just used it a lot….I guess I have to call up MS and talk to them. As for the windows 7 or vista I will listen to you about windows 7. I did a system diagnostics tool to see if my current config could run it and it said it could but what requirements do you think you would need to run lets say windows 7 ultimate?

Participantwell vista really needs more resources to run than windows 7… As long as you have at least 1gb ram you should be fine with windows 7.

ParticipantI dont know where i heard this from but I heard to get the most you wanna have at least a dual core processor and at least 4 gigs of ram

Participantwell for vista you really want at least dual core and 2gb ram, like i said, windows 7 runs on a smaller footprint. MasterP ran win 7 pro fine on his netbook (1.6ghz atom, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd) and said it was definitely fast enough to be usable. So yeah I mean any power user will want a dual or quad core with lots of ram but its not really necessary to run win 7.

Before I put MATLAB, Mathematica, and a bunch of other crap on there it booted in about 20 seconds, now it’s in the 30-45 second range. Once it’s up it’s very usable, even with an antivirus on it.
If you have a dualcore and 2gb of ram you should be just fine. 4gb maybe if you want to play games but unless you’re getting into some serious memory hogs like BF2142, Hellgate, etc you should be fine.
