Well, I’m trying it out and have to say I am enjoying it quite well! I’m working the x64 version (my first 64 bit os) so it all takes a bit of getting use to. I’m running the RTM so I imagine this is close to the real thing. I saw some other windows 7 thread, but felt an updated one should be started. Anyone else loving it? Anyone hating it? Let me know :)

RTM (release to manufacture) is the real thing.

I absolutely love it and haven’t had any significant issues with it yet.

I’m jumping from xp to 7 (dabbled with Vista and it was eh). This makes me happy :)

I’ve also been playing with the release candidate for W7, and it’s really impressing me, and I thought Vista sucked big, fat, monkey balls (and the entire reason I switched to the Mac 3 years ago).

That’s like saying your *edited* doesn’t work right, so you chopped it off.

    XP > Vista > Mac

I haven’t tried Windows 7 yet, but I heard a community college near my house it getting it, so perhaps WCU will get it as well.

Vista was just plain awful (and I used it too, and it was as awful as XP was stable).

The Mac is definitely a good machine (for the money). And because it’s on a Unix base, it’s about as stable as XP was (and that can only be a good thing).

XP was much less stable than Vista and took three service packs to get to a useable and reliable state. I think it’s funny how everyone forgets just how terrible XP was for the first 4 years of its existance. Vista become stable and mostly reliable after the first service pack and with SP2 it’s even more so (statistically) than XP SP3.

For the money, Macs are terrible machines. They cost about 75% more than their competition with identical hardware. OSX is only stable until some tiny little thing breaks then it’s pretty much a reformat every time.

Also, did I mention Macs come with terrible gaming performance for the price? A $1500 Dell will get you a hell of a gaming machine but $1500 of Mac can barely touch solitaire.

Western should be getting copies of Windows 7 sometime in the near future. You can probably pick up two (only two) once they arrive for around $15.

I’m content with my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate license. The ONLY problems I am having are with sound card drivers, and that the onboard realtek drivers are the only ones that seem to work flawlessly. My Claro and Fatal1ty both have issues, and I’ve even tried Daniel_K’s drivers.

On a side note: MasterP, you have no clue what you’re talking about on the subject of macs. You have to be the biggest moron alive to crash a mac, I’ve been using them for my development for years, and all 3 of my macs own. My mac pro even has 2 HD4870s in it:D

Macs aren’t “75%” more expensive. Not if you know how to buy them. Buy only the skin and bones from apple themselves, than by your extra FBDIMM RAM at macdeals or some *edited* to save a load of money. Never buy macs cinema displays. They’re not worth it. I bought dell ultrasharps:D *edited* like that. Macs are still a little more expensive, but for a superior and more stable OS, which takes better advantage of your hardware to develop I have no problem paying for it.

Shame….after all this time, there’s still that one PC fanboy who keeps throwing the price card and the “their not as stable as you think” card….shame on you…just…shame on you.

meh im gonna agree with masterp… and im a former mac owner… the 75% is a little over the top but you seriously do pay about 30% more, and how is it a “a superior and more stable OS, which takes better advantage of your hardware”? ive seen many broken macs and yeah… when they break, they break pretty *edited* hard; at least i can fix windows’s problems

That’s nice. I’ve been working directly in IT for 5 years now and it’s extremely rare to be able to actually fix a serious OSX problem. Any Windows problem is easily recoverable and you never lose files, even after a full format, but when a Mac dies it dies hard and typically takes all the user’s files with it.

Here’s an example: Unmountable boot volume / corrupt partition

For Windows – toss in any Windows disk and run chkdsk. Still doesn’t boot so you do a fixboot/fixmbr or repair install/SFC and it works.

For Mac – toss in an OSX disc, realize you’ve got one that doesn’t work on that newer version of Macbook. Call user, wait for them to bring in discs. Put disc in and repair disk and permissions. Still doesn’t work. What do you do now oh genius of Mac? How do you get the machine to boot again WITHOUT reinstalling the OS?

Hint: You can’t. So you do a non-destructive reinstall, only the partition is still corrupted because the mac chkdsk doesn’t fix that. So not only do you have to reformat and lose all the user’s files but you also just lost this argument.

So you do admit they are if you buy them from Apple… what was you’re argument again?

Btw Mike, think about it. The base 17″ Macbook Pro costs $2500 while the equivalent Dell Studio costs $1300.

When you add 90% of $1300 back into $1300 you get $2470. Thus the Macbook Pro is 90% more than the Dell equivalent. QED my friend.

Thanks for telling us you don’t know what type of RAM is used in the current (or last) generation of Macs. FBDIMM? That’s DDR2 dude. lol

So you’re telling me the $1200 price difference between the 17″ Macbook Pro and 17″ Dell Studio is worth it because the OS is better? I know Canadians are different but *edited* if that’s not just stupid.

Go work in IT a few years then come lecture me about which OS is better. Until then just keep quiet because you really don’t know wtf you’re talking about.

My mac pro DOES us FBDIMM. Shows what you know.

Work IT for a few years? I’m a certified computer technician my friend, because you’re the one who has no clue. I bought my mac pro in 08, contains 2 4870s (which I recently bought), 16gb fbdimm ram, and 2 quad xeon 3ghz cpu’s. Maybe YOu should try the research and experience technique, like I have.

My mac pro is the last generation mac pro, and it uses Fully Buffered DDR2 ECC FB-DIMM ram. Even GOOGLE could have saved you from making an *edited* of yourself there.

Bash the price all you want, but I chose stability, warranty, and reliability for my buck.

I didn’t say yours didn’t, I said it was old by MP standards. DDR2 that slow hasn’t been used on the last several xeon generations and the current gen uses SO-DIMM DDR3. You’d be surprised what I know.

You talking about the Xeon X5365? If so you’re talking about early 2007. Last I checked this is over 2 years later. Now maybe Apple doesn’t release newer models every year, idk, but I do know that if 2.5 years old is the “last generation” then you’ve got a LONG way to go before obtaining bragging rights about your purchase.

For someone who a few posts back was lecturing us on how to buy a barebone system and then build it up, you’ve got alot of nerve telling us that Macs, which are pretty much the LEAST customizable computers, have greater stability, warranty, and reliability. Apple doesn’t offer a free 3 year to lifetime warranty on their computers. That’s what mine came with…
