1) we are getting a blade server which limits us to 2 drives max; raid 5 is NOT an option
2) if the raid 1 is really causing issues we can switch it to raid 0. we lose redundancy but it will be more than fast enough.
Also we are having systems redo the quote with 15k rpm drives instead of the 10k drives they originally proposed. That will help. A lot.
