SpectatorFirst, I want to say thanks for updating the admin app to include the requirements. But I just want to clear this up since Stevenson just applied for admin and seemed to disregard the second portion after the “or.” He completely overlooked the part where it said to have 100 meaningful posts.
The admin requirements say:
Quote:
Admin Eligibility1. Be a current student, staff member, previous executive, or alumni of Western Carolina University.
2. Have a minimum of 50 hours of time in the server.
3. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.
4. Have at least one recommendations from a current or previous Executive.
Or
1. Have at least 100 meaningful posts on the forums.
2. Have a minimum of 50 hours of time in the server.
3. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.
4. Have at least two recommendations from a current or previous Executive.
WCU students automatically get admin, right? Cuz that’s what I’ve seen so far. If not and the 2, 3, and 4 that are on top are for students, I think the requirements should be rephrased to say this:
Quote:
If you’re a current student, staff member, previous executive, or alumni of Western Carolina University:1. Have a minimum of 50 hours of time in the server.
2. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.
3. Have at least one recommendations from a current or previous Executive.
If you’re not:
1. Have at least 100 meaningful posts on the forums.
2. Have a minimum of 50 hours of time in the server.
3. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.
4. Have at least two recommendations from a current or previous Executive.
However, I’m pretty sure that they don’t need those other three requirements (see frag’s admin app; I’m sure I could dig up more if you need it). The app should just say:
Quote:
Be a current student, staff member, previous executive, or alumni of Western Carolina University.Or
1. Have at least 100 meaningful posts on the forums.
2. Have a minimum of 50 hours of time in the server.
3. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.
4. Have at least two recommendations from a current or previous Executive.

SpectatorHe didn’t read the admin requirements so we should rephrase them?
People aren’t going to read the requirements no matter how well you word them or where you put them.
April 25, 2009 at 7:48 pm #82458torankusu
SpectatorI’m saying how does he know which one is pertinent to him.
First of all, if you read through the whole thing, I said that there are three requirements that seem to be unnecessary (see 2, 3, 4 in the first portion) because anyone who attends or works at WCU gets admin automatically. So take those three out and leave the rest for those who AREN’T part of WCU.
I’m not saying change it cuz he’s an idiot. Change it cuz whoever drew it up messed it up.

SpectatorThe way its set up now current students bypass the 100 post requirement b/c they are active community on campus, attend meeting/lan/exc. Members not on campus can only really build community via forums.
tora’s correct that current students use to get admin automatically, but i believe that has changed dew to the fact of the size of our growing community. i mean we have execs that dont even meet the requirements lol.

line 1 on each section is the only thing thats really a big difference
One says 100 post, the other says be a WCU student.

It doesn’t really. If you don’t want the bottom to state explicitly that it’s for non-WCU students, then the top at least should read that the three bottom requirements are for students who are not active on campus. You said that not everyone lives on campus, so I guess those people have to fulfill the last three requirements cuz they won’t get admin automatically.

However, torankusu is correct. Just because he didn’t read it does not mean that it is unclear. For instance, I cite this line again:
Quote:
3. Have at least three recommendations from an existing Admin.Does this mean that someone could hypothetically triple post after my admin application to state: “distemper is the most awesome person in the world, I wish I could be just like him, and like, be as cool as him… so, yeah, he can be admin, lulz?”
In this situation, everyone here understands that it means one recommendation from one admin, but you need at least three. But that does not change the fact that the phrasing is innately confusing.
Same thing goes for the part that torankusu is pointing out. If what NoDice says is true, than the current portion of requirements for WCU students should be removed entirely, because, as he aptly pointed out, just because they’re WCU students does not mean that they would make good admins and good members of the gaming community.

SpectatorSo I am using firefox with the WCU Pro Brown skin and the requirements for the admin app show up with a black background and are unreadable. Can this be fixed?

If it looks bad for WCU, I’m glad I’m not a student there. /shrug
Although I don’t think people should automatically get it, the thing I was really getting at was just that requirements are phrased in a way that’s not so clear. Some people have interpreted my comment as, “One person read it wrong, so let’s change it for him.” It was more like, “Let’s clarify it for future applicants cuz whoever wrote this sucks.”
Even if you want to leave it so people have to guess which part is relevant to them, at least clear up the part that Dice brought in. I didn’t even know that the requirements below the part about the students is for students who don’t live on campus. I figured if they just get it automatically, just omit the three requirements that follow it.
It’s been said that the requirements won’t be read no matter how well you word it or where you put it, but you know what? The wording’s always sucked (at least since I’ve been here) and it wasn’t always in an obvious place. Now that it’s in the app, maybe we could clear it up since no one proofread it before (and if someone did, I’m sorry, but you suck).

and does L4D have admins?

and does L4D have admins? We can’t use an admin plugin on Left4Dead right now. Sourcemod conflicts with the matchmaking system and prevents the server from being populated from player lobbies or showing in the steamgroups list.
Right now, the only admins are Nickname and myself as we both have RCON to the server.
