It’s important to remember that the Republican Party and the conservative base operate independently. The base has been angry with the party leaders for quite a while now because it seems like the leaders have abandoned the base. That is why Steele had to apologize when he insulted Rush Limbaugh. It was like the leader of the RNC was attacking one of the key voices of conservatism. Not a very good way of endearing yourself to the base. When Steele took over, I thought he might help bring conservatives back to the leadership, but every time he talks I become more unsure about him. First he said we should endear ourselves to pro-choice people and now this.

I have nothing against Jindal, but I don’t know much about him. I’m really on the fence about Coulter.
