SpectatorFirst of all, let me start by saying, that when it comes to linux servers, I’m the bomb diggity. There’s nothing I don’t know about them…but when it comes to Windows servers…I’m blank.
Here’s what I’m trying to do:
As you know, I’m a web designer/developer. I wanna set up a localhost on my spare AMD X2 PC that I can access from any computer on my network. I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise license, so I wish to do it with this. What I want to accomplish is:
1. Getting the localhost up and running via IIS.
2. Install PHP, PHPmyadmin, Ruby, Python, and MySQL.
3. Be able to access the localhost address through a browser on any PC on my network (Linksys WRT54G).
I think that coveres what I want to do….but the only problem is, I have no idea how to do this with server 2003. I’d just assume do it with linux, but my goal here is to have support for all the microsoft programming languages as well. Which is why i choose to use IIS. Does anybody know how to do this or know any good guides that explain this??
Thanks:)

SpectatorWell take it one step at a time. Install server 03. IIS is pretty intuitive so it should be easy enough for you to figure out. PHP is a simple install as well and there are guides all over the internet for it, same as MySQL. For the other things, I don’t really know, but I assume they are also pretty easy and guides all over the web.

SpectatorI’m almost positive I can get through that stuff. My only hurtle now is making it a localhost that is accessible from any browser on my network.

SpectatorIn computer networking, localhost (meaning “this computer”) is the standard hostname given to the address of the loopback network interface.
I’m just saying. IIS makes the computer browsable as long as you have the pages you want to be able to browse to in the IIS browsable directories. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot by default.

SpectatorWhen you set it up in IIS, it will automatically publish your website to the internal IP given to it by the router (IE 192.168.1.101). You don’t have to set that up manually, although you could if you wanted.

SpectatorHey Derrick, I asked a few folks on another forum that I used to visit often(hope you don’t mind). If they get back to me, I’ll let you know.

Honestly, if it weren’t for the “want” for ASP support, I would use linux, or just install apache lol.

SpectatorHey, don’t feel bad, I don’t even know what Windows Server 2003 is, lol…
Why isn’t there a Windows Server 2008? They’re usually pretty fast with these updates.

SpectatorThere is. I just don’t have a license for it:P
