The specific changes include: Added Multicore Rendering This initial release is aimed at testing compatibility, so the option is OFF by default To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the "Multicore Rendering" option Other Changes Several performance improvements to decals and client bone/flex setup A variety of alt-tab and mode switch fixes Improvements to the way the engine initializes surround sound, fixing some specific hardware cases
This looks like a significant improvement

SpectatorOh *edited*e, multi-core support!
I constantly have Folding@Home running 100% while playing all my games, even Dead Space and UT3.
No Frame rate drop, ever.
It’s wonderful.
So I’m not so sure this is going to help me, but oh well, why not?

SpectatorMulti GPU is always supported, SLI and CF are hardware related so any game can use them.
In SLI and CF, all the cards split the load and then put the parts back together so it looks like there is one massive card, basically.
Multi CPU, while also technically hardware based, requires the game to be Multi CPU ready for some reason.
…
Someone explain this better please.

Actually you’ll find that multi-threading and sli are both done via the software. One of the biggest complaints about the c++ language is that there is no multi-threading language support. You’ll also find that Windows XP also lacked multi-threading support for quite some time. All SLI compatible games have an option to turn SLI on or off. Many older games were patched to allow for multi-core cpus but most were not updated for multi-core gpus. SLI wasn’t really developed for gaming, it kind of got pushed that way more or less. Most games today still don’t fully support SLI for this reason despite how long SLI has been in existence.

SpectatorSLI has been around for over a decade now and it’s really sad it still doesn’t have the software support.
