That seems a little low to me. We were a trillion dollars in the hole BEFORE the bailout came to be. The number is close to 2.4 trillion dollar deficit. Of that Bush is responsible for half, because half of that came from his war. Also to note, the CBO is flawed, and Obama is well aware of this.

From the above website:

Conservatives have few grounds for agreement with Obama’s agenda, but on these points we should be in complete agreement:

* The CBO revenue baseline is wrong;

* Preserving current law is not a policy to cut taxes; and

* Allowing any of the current law tax provisions enacted in 2001 or 2003 to expire is a tax hike.

I’m not talking about “in the whole” as that’s not what a deficit is. A deficit is the shortfall of a budget in a SINGLE year. Our overall national debt is closer to $9 Trillion and has gone up by the amount predicted by the CBO for the past 2 decades. It has NOT gone up over $1 Trillion per year, EVER.

I find it curious though that you liberals sung praises for the CBO when it was used as a source against Bush but now that it’s being used against Obama it must be a flawed system with a “wrong baseline.” Can you guys really not come up with anything new? Obama has been pulling this flip-flip, idea-stealing garbage for months now but I thought his online following was supposed to be more creative.

There are a ton of ways the rich can avoid being taxed, and they take full advantage of that.

There isn’t a limit on using these tax deducations that says only the rich can do it. Everyone can.

Also something to note, business owners like to do a little thing called hand me downs, which they basically give part of their tax burden to their employees. How is that fair?

Perfectly fair because this tax evasion, does in fact, not exist. Who are you getting this information from and how biased a website do they run? Since you’re reading the Huffington Post I can only assume it’s biased to say the least.

The whole point is, the rich can afford to take on a tax burden, as they should. They have the most money so they should pay the most.

So you’re saying that living the American Dream and being successful in life means I should be punished? How is THAT fair? How can you sit there and tell me that taking taking money away from some people and giving it to others because “they have more money” is a fair system. Go back to communist Russia, I think they’re missing their dictator.

Not every poor person is lazy or ignorant. A lot are, but to say that “besides a few rare cases, poor people deserve to be poor” is ignorant within itself. Sure, there are a few bad apples, but there are a lot more genuine single moms and low income families who struggle to get ends meat. They don’t deserve to work 80 plus hours a week, but they have to because that is the only option. It boggles my mind that conservatives can preach to be christian and all that nonsense, then turn around and not give a flying hoot about their neighbor.

It’s quite simple really, you are punished for mistakes you make in life. If you decide to have a baby when you’re 16, that’s YOUR fault and you will suffer for the next 18 years for it. It is not fair to make innocent people pay you money because you decided to have sex and get got pregnant as a consequence. If you waited until later in life to have kids, good for you but it still doesn’t change the fact that the kids are yours, they do not belong to the nation or the people and as such should not be supported by the people. I can sympathize with poor people working to try to make ends meet but having grown up in public school I can tell you exactly why that cycle perpetuates and it all boils down to laziness, ignorance, or blowing money on “big boy” toys. Maybe you didn’t pay attention in high school, I don’t know, but if you had you would have a much different perspective because EVERYONE has the same potential in the public school system. Those who spent their their every waking moment playing paintball, video games, and building hotrods are the ones who are stuck without a proper education and turn around and blame it on the system. It’s their fault they didin’t apply themselves. It’s their fault they didn’t get take harder classes. It’s their fault they didn’t study. It’s their fault they didn’t get the grades for college.

My sister went to one of the top charter schools in NC and spent pretty much every waking moment studing or doing homework. All students, in every class tier, had just as much work as her and as a consequence those who didn’t really care about school failed or dropped out back to public schools. Her graduating class had 100% placement in colleges. Where I went to public school that number was closer to 30% and NOTHING about that number boiled down to money or status in life. Want proof? Around half her graduating class had to work to pay for gas money to get to school.

Actually Bush’s tax cuts expire in 2 year ONLY for people who make over 250,000. Obama intends to keep all the cuts for everyone below that number, and add a couple more.

So what that article says is that every time Obama cuts taxes for one group of people he raises them on another to offset it. How is that even remotely close to fair? All that does is punish the rich for being successful. That’s not what this country was founded on.

Poor people do get into college easier, but then again a poor person has had a much harder life than you or me. The problem isn’t walking to a bus because poor people already do that. See, they can’t afford as much time as you or me. You think it’s an obvious answer to their problem and the poor are just blind? MasterP you are a real Messiah. Why don’t you go down and tell them your obvious solution. You won’t, because it really isn’t that simple. Ghettos, traps, poor neighborhoods, all of that are complex issues that can’t be solved with an uplifting of ignorance. Have you ever had to decide on working or school when you were 14 or 15? That’s a decision that a lot of poor kids have to make, a decision that better off kids don’t.

See my previous comments. Everyone is equal in public schools and even successful students work their way through high school. The problem is that it’s much easier to blame the system and allow yourself to fail than it is to buck tradition and actually be successful. There are just too many examples of poor, ghetto, “trapped” kids “breaking free” to believe your world-view. In fact, I’d go so far to say that if we actually indulged your world-view on this that not a single black person decendant of a slave would be college educated or wealthy. If you disagree with that statement then you also agree that working hard, regardless of living conditions or place in society, will make you successful.
