With elections coming up I’d like everyone’s opinion on how well they think I did my job as the Counter Strike Source Council Leader. ALL opinions and comments are welcome as they will help either me or my successor do a better job in serving the community at large.

Feel free to lay into me if you feel I deserve it, all I ask is that this not turn into a flame thread. Flame me, not the other posters.

Just to be clear – it can be a flame thread, but you can be the only target?

Also, I think you have done a great job. Not that I know your in-game names or anything, but physically seeing your presence would be nice from time to time (as MasterP or something recognizable – such as CSS:CL :)~).

From what I can tell 1.6 has had too may admins, and it appears you have kept that down here at CSS which is a good thing. Also, enforcement of rules has been fair and adequate. You have also been very receptive to suggestions.

Overall, I give you an A-.

I’m in there all the time but usually not even the other admins know who I am. I’ve found it’s easier to gauge how the community feels about things when they don’t know I’m around. I’ve also found that people behave many times better when they know I’m on and as much as I like a well behaved server, it often helps to see how players, and admins, act when they don’t know the server op is watching.

And yes, in this thread I am the only flame target. <_>

Okay I flame you! (well I don’t actually, so I fail).

Oh one thing that could be nice and this is more suggestion than anything – admin reviews. not sure, but we aren’t a huge admin list, as far as I can tell, and well if you are on a lot, then you observe a lot. It could be either individual or en masse, with just some observations of what is being done well and what isn’t. This might not actually be possible or worth while, but just a suggestion for current and future CLs.

    For completeness:

IMO you gave the admins too much power. You know why I feel this of course, but I’ll go ahead and elaborate for all to read. To be able to ban someone for hacking without any demo’s is ridiculous. I’ve read through the demo’s threads and I see that it’s a collaboration of people who carefully exam the gameplay of the player in question in light of what he/she is thought to have done. Also with demos you can change the model type so that you yourself can see through walls and get a good feel for whether or not said player is actually looking at something through them. When you have one admin spec a player in game and then ban them permanently without any grounds for appeal or anything other admins can look at to give their opinion on the subject, that is not only asking for abuse(which is not what I think happened in my case), but is also asking for a lot of mistakenly banned players. What if the admin missed something, like footsteps, an ally seeing them on radar, a place a player repeatedly goes everyround, or just a common spot that players like to go. I think that was the whole reason you had the demo system, because even admins make mistakes. However this new system either assumes they don’t, or just doesn’t care about losing active players in the server. Either way I enjoyed playing in the wcu server, obviously since I played there so much. I could always count having a friend online in there to play with, even if was at 2 in the morning, and I’ll see all of you at the Feb. 28th? wcu lan to redeem myself and win on lan =].

p.s. this is not meant as a flame but as constructive criticism

That’s actually a pretty good idea. However, i think people would only fill out reviews if a certain admin did something wrong. It could be helpful in the regard too though.

Post demo’s even though you don’t have to.

I agree with lawl, demo’s should be posted at all time regardless of the new consitution saying council members don’t have to. Thats just asking for problems in the future

I realize this is your first post and I’m not sure whether you should be yelled at for not reading any of the other posts.. or the post topic.. or be excused because you must be new to the internet

but the demo issue is in the constitution and has nothing to do with master p’s review.

Post a new topic complaining about the constitution if anything, but that is not decided by the public anyway so I doubt you’ll get anywhere.

In my opinion.. keeping on topic Master P has done a good job. I don’t personally agree with everything in the source server… especially the AWP limit, but the server is populated and running well and is very fun to play at, so I really don’t have too much to complain about but more of an aggravation.

The only thing that I could say that really is not a big issue now, but earlier it seemed like you smurfed a good bit and thus separated yourself from the community. I never saw you on even though you were. You have been on a lot now and we’ve played and had a good time so I don’t think it’s really an issue anymore, but I think the council leader should maintain a social presence in the server.

I also realize that smurfing is sometimes necessary to regulate admins and other players.

I’d say Master P and Brian were the two best CL’s that have been in place since I’ve been playing although Brian doesn’t always follow the rules now he was really good when he was the CL.

I really like that your doing this. Their is not a better way to get opinions and feedback from not only your respected community, but the club as a whole. (bring it up at the meeting)

Hoping other staff would consider following your example,, i see alot of potential club improvement through things like this.

I did it at the end of my summer term and got quite a bit of feedback. It’s something I think the CLs (at the very least) should be required to do as you really do hear things that wouldn’t otherwise come up.

i have had my complaints, but overall things seem to be run well, server population is kept very high thanks to effective rotations, i liked that the new rotation included some maps that weren’t favored but still included and i think the server has supported these. Overall i’d give it a B+

A time lemit need to be set for demos to be reviewed by the cls and i go along with the others no cl or exec should be able to ban without a demo . Reason i say this is its to easy for a cl or exec to just get *edited*ed or not like a person in the server and be able to ban a person in the servers with out proof if the admins have to have it every one should . As the execs and cls are a type of admin

And like the other people that posted this, IT IS NOT MASTERP’s CHOICE ON THIS MATTER…the ability to do this was already in place before MasterP did this. And what is the point in electing people if you do not trust them to do the right thing. It is exactly what we do with our very own government, we elect 1 person for the top, then a few below him, and so on, with people in place to keep things in check…Bitey was the top, MasterP was two-ish below and his checks and balances were Bitey/Liam and the other execs…

Now onto MasterP, my only issue was your slight hiatus, maybe I missed it, but a headsup would have been helpful, although it was the holidays…so maybe understandable : P

And like Lemm or whoever said, the smurfing is necessary at times, but we NEVER saw you on…and the people like to see who runs things every now and then. Just like in our own government, we need to see our president make speeches ect. so we know he is up and doing work for us(hopefully). Anyways…good new map rotation, I lub it(not you though since you took out havananananana) and it seems to be doing very well…

Overall a highly enjoyable server. Just a couple things I notice:

    1) A more robust map rotation. I don’t have anything against any of the maps in particular, but simple having a couple more in the rotation would be nice.

    2) A minor issue that has only recently begun to be a problem is that I cannot mute the voice chat of players on the opposing team. Thus, mic spamming has been an issue (I know, I’m not really one to talk), particularly when players die. Would it be possible to make muting possible for players on the other team? This also leads into my third point….

That’s it for me. So far MasterP has been good, but as someone else had noted, a greater physical in-game presence from some of the higher-ups would be nice.

I think overall you did a good job. At the beginning you were pretty eager to meet peoples needs and made a bunch of changes without much thought. But hannah kinda peaced rather quickly and you didn’t have much time to adjust. I think you settled down nicely, did some great things for the server. Cut down on our massing # of admins and really helped our new admin mod come in nicely and smoothly. I was gone for bout the last 2 months of your term. But before that I’d give ya a solid B+, you can do some extra credit for that A if you’d like ;).

My only problem is not having a list of root admins posted somewhere to contact when the server goes down to get a reset. I realize that’s what IRC is for, and i’ll hit it up as a last resort. :)

Pretty much if the server goes down, you contact (in order) Liam, MasterP, and me if you get really desperate.

I think what is being done is good, and i truely enjoy playing on the server for many reasons. One, there is ALWAYS an admin present. A good job has been done recurring (most of) our current admins. The Omnipresence of admins really helps keep the sever fun, no hacker stays on for more than a few minutes, no greifers get away with something a second time, the server is clean, rules are enforced fairly and constantly.

The only issue i have is our server rotation. I don’t know if the ideas i have are even possible, code wise. I can’t say you have done anything bad, or wrong or ignored ideas, becuase it is my fault for not submitting my ideas in the first place.

    your final score:

    14/14.
