The subject of marketing was brought up:

-Two potential fliers were shown to those in attendance. It was decided that the version without “rip-off” tags would be those printed.

-The previous banner had been missing for some time and several members decided to retrieve it once the meeting was concluded. (Note: the banner is now in the posession of Jason Smith.)

Consoles are just trying to prove a point. Unfortunately, the PC side follows the rules so it’s just going to end up being freeplay.

The download, and to sign up for a FREE account for Gunbound can be had here: http://gunbound.ijji.com. And tbh, yah the vote was to make somewhat of a point, but at the same time I am an avid PC gamer, as I’ve played Guild Wars competitively for 3 years now, and had an opportunity to go to Leipzig, Germany for the World Championships in 06 but couldn’t because of exams. So in general a bunch of us wanted a tourney to compete in that we would have a general shot a doing well in. The original suggestion was Guild Wars but I didn’t think it was fair because I would win it hands down, not to be *edited*y or anything, but then Gunbound was suggested because it is really easy to get into, its free, and like the PC guys having Wii Bowling we have our Gunbound now.

So if you have an f’ing problem with that, then you can come straight to me, because I personally find that Wii Bowling tourney is a waste of time and the money for a prize, when I can go up to the lanes in Sylva on any given weekday and for $5 can bowl 2 full games and call it a day. So you can live with our Gunbound, because I have to live with your stupid Wii Bowling tournament.

    #60817

Gunbound is 100% fine, as long as people play it at the LAN. Nothing wrong about consul [people playing and voting for a pc game.

On a side note: You guys should be upset that the execs are wasting $60 of your money(money that can be spend for stuff at the LAN). The $50 of the $60 for the website can be payed for by SGA for free, as long as the paper work is filled out.. they are being to lazy to even try.

And why was the lan planed on a date in which the president cant attend? Didnt the president pick the date?

Hate to sound like a negative nancy but i’m getting fed up with the laziness

well Bitey told me he wanted lunch at 3 and dinner at 9; Brenton told me the console schedule and kip and I determined the PC schedule around it.

If Gunbound is supposed to be the console gamer’s version of wii bowling, then let’s have wii bowling and gunbound at the same time.

I really don’t think that was necessary or appropriate…

ALSO… nice minutes Ephriam, though the @ in my name was just a joke :) Also Student Computing will have a table at the LAN but there was never any mention of them bringing computers…

Not to be a total jerk but I felt it was totally necessary considering the mud slinging in the tons of posts complaining that Wii Bowling was replaced by Soul Calibur IV when SCIV had the biggest turnout of any of the tournies at the last LAN. I sat here the entire time on the forum before the last LAN reading the constant whining and complaints and didn’t say a word, so in this instance when the complaining started I stepped up and put my foot down.

So Wii Bowling was voted in entirely by PC gamers? There weren’t 6 PC gamers at the meeting and not all of them that were there voted for Bowling. Before blamming us for your problems you might want to check in your own house.

So long as you actually play in the tournament I have no problem with it but do you guys actually intend to pass up playing Brawl for Gunbound? I voted for 2 console games, neither of which cause problems with scheduling (brawl and bowl), but it looked very much like you guys were trying to throw the entire PC game selection when in all honesty most of you have no intention of sitting out 2-3 console tournaments for an RTS game and/or MMO game. All we asked last time was that you honor the general vote, notice that very few of the hardcore PC people really want to play Gunbound yet we aren’t getting rid of it. We would much rather have another shooter or a quick RTS.

If this is the way it’s going to be from now on then maybe we need seperate meetings for game selection.

The best idea I’ve heard to date and thats being brutally honest. And yes I am playing GB over brawl, and I know about 5 others doing the same. I hate Brawl, am not a big fan of the Wii, and thus why I wanted to play GB on top of making a point. TBH, I’d like to see you complain to my face and in person, instead of sitting back back during the meeting all quite then come on these forums and complain when its just you and your keyboard and nobody to argue with in person.

    Diplomatic response:

Both sides make valid arguments. The console people have a point in that they know more about which games are better suited for console tournaments. The PC people have a point in that the rules set up by the constitution should be respected. Some compromises may be in order.

    Honest response:

You all sound like a bunch of whiny babies. Seriously. Is any of this actually all that important? It’s a video game club! It’s not worth getting your *edited*s tied in a knot over! No wonder the club is getting a reputation for infighting. Now, compromise or something so I can finally make a thread that dosen’t end up locked.

We should move CS:S to 4pm and TF2 to the CS:S slot. CS:S has always been the last game played and I think its time to change it up.

Glad to see you guys talked about the costume contest :).

Who the *edited* voted for gunbound xD. What a fail game.

Why is the most voted on PC game being played at 4pm? :P.

We have TF2 where it is because that way it gets the most time… since we always run over. This way we get 2 1/2 hours for TF2. Notice that CSS only gets 1 1/2 hours and last LAN it got about 30 minutes because everything ran over.

Also, let’s leave the schedule how it is because I’m glad I get to play Brawl for a change :)

umm…. just for your info…. SGA really doesn’t have much money. and how the hell is the gaming club wasting our money on something that is strictly for us?!?! It’s not even like we aren’t trying. Plus, it would take about 3-4 just for the money to be approved. By the time it is approved and sent out, the IP Board and IP Gallery would both be expired and we would be without that stuff for a while. SO… It’s a SMART decision to spend gaming club money on this. I mean, if you want IP Board and IP Gallery to expire, then sure we’ll try to get SGA money. And Bitey said that he might not be there the entire time but he was going to try his best to get out of his rehearsal. Don’t call us lazy when you don’t know all the facts :) Cause all the execs are doing are best! have a good day :)

The boards don’t go offline, they just lose their ability to update/get support. Did more games get voted in that were thrown out by the president? And he won’t even be at the next LAN? I’m surprised that all these people that “care” about the LAN and the club allow him to remain in office. I won’t say anything about sponsors, because that’s not his fault, they have been dwindling for a long time with PC games being *edited* lately and the market going down slightly. It will bounce back eventually, but again, sponsors are not his fault. Throwing votes, *edited*ty schedules and no balls to control what’s going on are fairly large problems in my opinion…an opinion that hasn’t mattered much over the past year or so. But hey! Bitey did a) get TRON all to the gaming club ALL BY HIMSELF b ) get Aphrodite moved to a VM (let’s not talk about the full day Stephen and I WASTED getting the original upgrades) c) distribute responsibilities…so he wouldn’t have to take any himself.

I will be really surprised if we don’t have a console player for club president next year. I have ZERO problem with this, as those are usually the more “go getter” people anyways. I just pray that they don’t let the PC side die off (look at Appalachian’s club) and care more about both sides as a whole so that the whole thing overall can prosper. That’s what I feel I did when I was president, and I did not have the resources that are available today. Correct me if I am wrong Oh Malley.

now thats an idea!!! Being president does not require you to know anythign about PC’s WE need someone that has time on their hands and can run around campus and make sure people do their jobs and hold them accountable. as shane said we need a “go getter” and i alos dont have any problem with a consul player as clubs president,, as long as they are active. Change the club prob needs.

Kuros… we ALL agreed at the meeting to choose a different game because of lack of people that own the game. There are like 5 or 6 people in the whole club that own BFME2, so why play it at the LAN. As for the VM thing… our VM is more powerful than the old box was and its not frying itself. So why the sarcasm? And if you have a problem with the schedule, how about suggesting a better one instead of *edited*ing about it.

Absolutely correct. You put me in charge of consoles because you knew I would do something to get them up and running. And that I did.

We just need more motivated people in leadership positions, especially Marketing Admin (which I think Nickname will do well in). And honestly, I don’t think a console president would let the PC side of things die off. Well, anyone I would nominate or vote for. It’s not that we don’t have qualified people in our executive positions, it’s now we’re to a point where we have a lot of questions we need answered, a lot of conflicts that need to be resolved, and a more on-campus presence. Just my opinions, and I have my own ideas to remedy the situation. But we’ll see how it all goes down in January.

I think my point in having Gunbound was proven when lootool suggested that Gunbound be dropped for CS:GG because the PC guys won’t be playing it. Which is the same reason we dropped Wii Bowling for SCIV, because we felt we would get more people to come to the LAN for SCIV and the Console guys would actually play in it. This time we have Wii Bowling in place of CoD4 from the last LAN, and I’ve already talked to 6 guys in my own building that won’t return to the next LAN because CoD4 isn’t being played and Wii Bowling is. mixing up game will ultimately bring more people,, yeah sure some people wont come b/c of one game,, but new people might come over the other. then next lan the game that got voted out will be played and both groups will come.. Verioty and different mashups is for the better long run. New games should definitely be introduced to the club,, who knows how many people will play it,, we never had it at an event for gosh sakes…. please everyone try and stay open minded and trying new things.

I perfectly open minded, but even at the meeting, as soon as Gunbound was mentioned it was like wtf, and when posted on these forums the complaints started almost immediately.
