If done correctly reserve slots can help build a strong group of regulars. (as the regulars will alsways come and play if they can alsways get in), however if everyone has a slot, then everyone will just be kicking each other.. it is a fine balancing act..
How can we give out reserve slots, and get people onto the website?
How can we give out reserve slots , with out everyone having one?
Who do you think should qualify for a reserve slot, and what should they do to get it?

thats a good way to dish it out..also we could give it out to cool people..and dont forget MINI’s…Loot.
Reserves are a bad idea if you’re trying to populate it. For one thing if it’s rarely full there’s no point to begin with and if a handful of regulars are the only ones with it you’re guaranteed to kick potential regulars for already established ones once the server takes off.
If you’re going to have reserved slots, the only people who have it should be exec and root.
Well i frist brought up reserved slots because like Dice said, we advertise it and yet, the only person to get one was Urban. Nothing wrong with that, but we do have a lot of regulars that also Pub elsewhere… maybe could give it to them to encourage them to come here and play more.
i dunno how we would decide who to chose and all that jazz either

this past week of the ten or so time i joined the server i had to wait on more than half the time. (no i dont mind waiting, and yes its good that the server is full)

As major said, it is known that alot of our members are going else were and if we can get them to come back we will be doing great.
I believe that admins should have a slot, Being an admin is work. They diverse some sort of perk for doing their job. We have done it in the past and it has worked.
If people see that we do slots,, they will wont to know how to get one,, they will become active in the forums and apply for admin.
Maybe we could set up an application or a refferal system
lets say when an admin sees a regular who has been helping out in the server a lot(aka by playing a lot, hence regular), the admin could tell him to go to the forums and ask for one that way, but always needing that previous admin and two other admins to say they deserve the slot. We can also set the amount of slots we give out, to say 5. We could then put in a rule that to keep the slots they need to become active on the forums and that would pave the way for more admins (not just spammers to get to 50)
i kno its a pain to get in, but i see this as a way to get guys to want to come play here more and will give us something that stands out versus other servers …. like if its a pain in the *edited* for admins to get on the server imagine how hard it is to get on without the slot?
just consider it. i think its a good idea.

I agree a lot with what Major said. 5 reserve slots are really what we need and by setting the amount of ppl to 28 we should be able to get at least 2 of those reserve slots filled right now.
Just so it’s said, passing out lots of reserved slots when the server is still in steady linear growth is a bad idea. You’ll reach the point where the regulars will start complaining about getting kicked all the time for reserved slots at which point you get to choose between running off new players or *edited*ing off old ones by cutting back on the reserved slots. Better to avoid that decision if you can. Unless of course Liam is setting those slots to be for reserved only and it doesn’t kick anyone for them, in which case there are no consequences except loads of win. (Not sure how CS16 mods do reserved)
If it were me I would set reserved to admins only and set it to 3. That way you know admins can get on to do their job and it still encourages those who are regulars to come here to be active and get admin. As a jumpstart you can do like they did with TF2 and lower the requirements for admins to get the server started (for a very limited time and handpicked people only).
I think we already have enough admins right now and most of us are fairly active. I am really happy to say that the only time there isnt at least 2 admins on is 3am 2pm and 7am cause those are either when we are sleeping/eating/eating/eating/sleeping/*edited*ting…. besides that it is really awesome. I think if we have it bumped to 28 slots as people who dont have admin and then make the cap be 31 if thats possible, that way liam, major, or some of the other admins can still get on and do their *edited* if they are not already there.
The way the slots are now, no one gets kicked automatically for an admin to get on, so i dont think we will get many complaints about getting kicked, more of just not being able to get on.
IN my opinion, the more admins there are, the more freinds they have, and therefore the more ppl they can bring in. Might not be AS simple as that, but i see that giving the reserved slots would encourage more forum growth.
so my train is
players>get reserved slots>make the forums grow>gain admin>come to play at WCU with their freinds>more players
and u see how it goes etc.

and if it become a problem it takes 2 seconds to take the slots off and we will be back to where we are now,,, just with more active ppl

For now we are just going to leave it as it is. I think in the future it may be useful but as for now, only Admin and Exec will have the ability to have slot reservation.
we could really be mean and instead of kicking them we can redirect them to other gaming servers we may decide to put up, also if there is a cap on the server when the server is full it may be best to allow them to connect and just push them to another server of ours that isnt full. Just so they are still on our servers, but arn’t being kick off our network.
Just brainstorming. i dont know if this is practical yet.
yea adam i’ve been to a few servers like that. where i tried to join and it was like yea sure, and i come in and its some kz server from the same clan. i was like wtf!! but i played a lil while. i tried to join soccerjam in the start lol
i say admins only just for the sec that if we need an admin in there. he can get in there. plzkthx
im not an admin myself but damnit if someone is hacking i want that foo outa there!When Source had redirects I disconnected out of spite no matter what clan did it to me. I even disconnected from TAG’s a few times over it. People join a server to play in that server. If they want to play in a regular server and get redirected to a customized-to-hell server they aren’t going to be happy and will tell their friends “hey watch that WCU server, it’ll kick you over to a custom garbage server if it’s almost full”.
Let people fight over the slots. It makes us look much more popular if people have to sit there and try for 5-10 minutes to get into the server. Better still, it means we are doing a good job of retention if people are willing to sit there and wait to get in. I myself have had to wait to get in the CSS server before, something that was unheard of a few months back. Definately have a custom if you want, but leave it up to the player as to whether or not to join it.
yeah make ppl wait. its annoying getting sent to another server. I HATES IT
Honestly, this is a good idea, but it’s really annoying for someone who doesn’t have a slot and here is why…
If it’s always 28/31, and you don’t have a slot, you cannot put Auto-load up. It just wont let you. Some may brush this off as being lazy, but honestly the only time I’ll wait on a server that is full is if I can use that Auto connect button. It’s so annoying to have to sit there and refresh until you see an opening, then try to connect and get denied. When you put reserve slots in the picture it takes out that Auto connect button.
I may be the only one that feels that way, but it’s a perspective that should be taken into account.
