Subject: hmmmm
just a something that is retarded.
You keep mentioning “LAN’s” such as
“Everybody come out for the LAN coming up on September 27th!”
“The purpose of this meeting will asses where we stand as far as what free play will go on at the LANʼs and also other events that we can possible hold.”
and “Volunteerʼs to help at the LANʼs.”
This DOESN’T make sense. the acronym ‘LAN” stands for “Local Area Network” which is medium, not a place! The only time that you correctly used the acronym “LAN” was when you said “We will also be holding voting for the games to be played at the LAN event.” Until this is fixed, I will not respect the Gaming Club as a college student organization. FIX YOUR GRAMMAR PLEASE!!
Thanks
To which I replied:
_______________________________________
We know what LAN stands for and we have used “LAN” Event since the beginning of the club. We are all going to be on a “Local Area Network” and it is an “Event” so it only seems proper to call it a “LAN Event”, sorry but all parties involved, except for you of course, concur that our grammar is correct. My biggest question is why are you critiquing the title we give our event, I don’t see you critiquing LMP events, as you may or may not know “LMP” stands for “Last Minute Productions”, and we both know that LMP does NOT plan their events on the last minute, so therefore by your logic their grammar is incorrect too. I suggest you take a close look at your sentence structure and grammar as well–before you critique someone else on theirs. You have made a fool of yourself and this email will be posted on the forums for the world to see, congratulations.
We hope your opinion on this matter changes and we see you at the “LAN Event”,
Jason M. Smith
Gaming Club President

SpectatorWell i always assumed we were using it correctly, i mean *edited* we are hosting a network in a Local area. IDK some ppl are just anal and wanna complain about everything.
September 27, 2008 at 5:35 pm #57951Kuros
SpectatorThe name of the event is WCU LAN 2xxx.x. Come to the LAN is short for come to the WCU LAN 2xxx.x event. Nobody wants to say “WCU LAN 2xxx.x” every time they mention the LAN. “The LAN” doesn’t mean Local Area Network in that sense.
Also, both Res Living and SGA consider us a valid college organization so it doesn’t really matter what the *edited* this retard thinks.

SpectatorPersonally, I think we should call them LAN Parties. Event is too vague; Party conveys a sense of fun. Besides, most people call them parties anyway.

How can you have a party inside a medium? I will not recognize you as a real person until you fix your grammar Eph.

Spectatoromfg can these people get a life rofl bitey your better of a person than me i would have sent that mister anal retentive person a response says please sir I’m not as perfect as you so please forgive me some people are just to freaking anal . And about the LAN event compared to LAN party if you really think about it they both describe the same thing i personally like the LAN event since there’s going to be so many things going on and since each one of them will be an event and a party is usually describes one thing going on as in one game being played and after looking at everything that will be going on event is really the only one that would sound right for the event

SpectatorYou guys aren’t helping things much by bashing him as much if not more so than he bashed you guys. Frankly, I’ve been enjoying the lan events less and less. I don’t say party because it wasn’t much of a party. Did you notice the low attendance last night? Maybe if you didn’t bash people like that it would work a little better. Sure, people get a little frustrated and they write emails to voice their frustration. Their grammar or reasoning may not be spot on, but maybe just maybe they’re upset due to some deeper reason. Some people might not care about their grammar while they are angry and just want their feelings out. This may just be the last lan event I attend. The first one of last year was fun and all, but the last two just haven’t seemed very fun. Perhaps it’s because I haven’t stayed the whole time, but why should I? I’m just not deriving any fun out of it. Anyways, as of now, so long and thanks for giving me Call of Duty 4 for my low, low cost of just $25. I think I’ll get out while I’m still roughly $25 ahead.
Bye for now.

SpectatorYou make a fine point. I dunno what I was looking for by posting that. I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing or planning on doing. Just trying to figure myself out.
September 28, 2008 at 3:06 pm #57984VBloodLustV
Spectatorplus a lot of the reason that we didn’t have as high of an attendance is because we usually have a good amount of people from out of town, and because of this gas situation that is going on and because people aren’t sure if they will be able to get home once they get here, they just decided not to come to this event. Once gas is more readily available I’m sure we will get a better turn out.

Can you elaborate on this? Nothing has changed about the LAN for a while, maybe a few changes here and there but for the most part it is pretty much the same. What would you like to see different to make it better, instead of just running away help us bring this club to its full potential. Attendance was not that low for the first LAN of a new year, many people have graduated and didn’t have the money to make it back out, and all the new freshmen probably weren’t aware of it because our MA dropped the ball and did not do anything, leaving us to scramble for advertising. I am not in the least surprised about the attendance, but your reasoning is obviously something different, so please, elaborate, either here or in PM, but I really am curious what is missing for you.

Sorry. I had just woken up and couldn’t tell trolling from ranting. Really though, I guess I’m not as much of a gamer as most people and simply can’t derive as much fun as everyone else in the gaming aspect of lans. Perhaps if I change the way I look at the lans I will have a better time. The $5 paid is definitely worth it for the pizza, snacks, and drinks. And if I’m lucky, a prize would make the $5 even more worth it. Sorry for the trouble. It was all just a matter of how I looked at the event.
Also, I’m just running a little low on cash and I’m getting a little antsy whilst waiting for my next paycheck.

SpectatorI can understand that, some people can play games all day long, some people can play games for a few hours and then come back to it, while others can play for a few hours and then they are kinda done for the day. I would suggest finding a few friends that you like to hang out with and just hang out, I mean you don’t have to play games you can just sit at a table and play cards or just sit and talk. But I definitely understand how you might get bored if you not the kind of person who can just play game after game and continuously enjoy yourself, just might not be your thing, I hope you do continue to come and hang out and do whatever you find to be fun, if there is anything I can provide at the LAN to help just let me know.

You don’t live in Atlanta.Big cities are different but I doubt if we have more than a half dozen total that travel that far regularly for our LANs. Besides, you know there’s going to be gas somewhere in the time it takes to travel between there and here. Hell, as many truck stops as there are along the way you’d probably be better off filling up halfway here anyway.

SpectatorThat wasn’t my concern. My concern was getting back into down and not having enough fuel to last me the week. As it stands, I have fuel. Its a moot point now anyway as its a thing of the past.

SpectatorI know that Lanwar calls their LAN event “Million Man LAN”. Maybe he ought to *edited* at them, too.
Oh, I just wanted to point out that if this person copied and pasted those quoted sentences, I think you mean “assess” cuz what’s written is the plural of “*edited*”. And if that was his mistake, then it just makes him look dumber.
