SpectatorI know Falcon and I have experienced gaming in linux. I was wondering if there are more of you floating around that play in linux. Maybe we could share our experiences
. Let’s not make this a thread about bashing linux but one for us who went to the dark side instead =P

Spectatormajor, that is what i do as well.
I’m actually crossover + steam cuz crossover runs office soooo *edited* well. The only 2 faults that I have with my running cs are that I can’t use my mic and I have an error report in on that. The other one is that steam community does not yet work in game. Out of game friends will work rarely. Still, gameplay is pretty good. What is your experience like?

Spectatoryea with wine i got steam friends to work, but i cannot see any messages sent or recieved, but i can still look through the pages. my mic works with steam, but half the time i dont have sound… ive been trying to fix it for a while, but i havent found a forum thats awswered my question :X
its a little bit frustrating, but i get 100+fps and 0 choke so its worth it (when the sound works)

SpectatorI have sound consistently. You can be able to view the messages in steam friends but you have to play with the windows for a while (there is a problem with the way they refresh). As for sound did you try updating your alsamixer?? That may solve your problems, but yet again, i could be wrong. Make sure you have wine configured to use alsa correctly and all that fun. Like i said, i have crossover which runs things a little better

Crossover is a program you pay for : (. It is called crossover linux. It utilizes wine in better ways plus added support. It basically is wine that a company pimps out
. They upgrade regularly and tweak wine to make specific programs run better.March 21, 2008 at 11:48 pm #40319MasterP

Hell back when it took Win98 2 minutes to boot it still did more correctly than linux’s 30 seconds did.

Spectatorthe bottleneck isn’t in linux’s efficiency. It is in the lack of software companies writing for it. It runs much more efficiently and in a few years when everything is written for it its true power will show.
Let’s end our discussion about linux vs other os’s as i specifically said i didnt want this thread to be that
if you want to have that debate start a new thread
