SpectatorThis server is going to see a very serious overhaul soon and I am working on formulating those changes.
Here’s what is on the TODO list for now:
1. Update the rotation. I will be messing with timelimits too once we get some other stuff done. For now this is how it is going to go, with timelimits for each:
cp_dustbowl (25)
ctf_mach4 (25)
cp_well (20)
tc_hydro (15)
ctf_turbine_v3 (25)
cp_lazytown (20)
ctf_2fort (20)
cp_labor (20)
ctf_convoy_v2 (20)
cp_gravelpit (25)
cp_castle3 (20)
ctf_well (25)
cp_desertfortress (20)
The main idea here is to mix custom maps with official maps and also to alternate gametypes (ctf/cp/tc) as much as possible to give the most variety. Those timers may be increased, it will depend on how things turn out in a playtest. NOTE: the maps in bold will be new maps added to the server.
2. Configure and install BeetlesMod onto the server. Mani works.. kinda, but it messes up every time TF2 updates and has problems with the menus (not actually Mani’s fault, it is with the TF2 code). Eventually the plan is to implement Liam’s admin mod once he has the kinks worked out on the source server, but this is just something for the interim. I am going to do some research on different configurations for beetlesmod and see what we can do with that, I think we can add some cool new stuff to the server (the old quake3 sounds “first blood, dominating”, etc for an example)
3. Make sure we can get HLstatsX setup to work so it also doesn’t break when TF2 updates. A working stats server gives players something to work for on the server. Once we have the changes above implemented, current stats will be reset.
4. I would like to get some members of the community to setup some scheduled TF2 play times to help get the server populated. We only need about 6-8 people and we can get the whole thing pop’d. Once again I will work on that after we have the server configured correctly.
X 5. Make some minor changes to the MOTD EDIT: MOTD fully redone with HTML, has the rotation, rules, and a link to our website and the detailed rules here in the forums.
Lastly, I want YOUR input. What would you like to see on the TF2 server? Kappamerc had the suggestion to have sudden death be all melee, which beetlemod will allow. Also we will try to implement his suggestion of having the WCU logo appear in the spawn points of maps (if the map allows it). If you have any other ideas, please post them here! Also, if there is a map you want that is not on the rotation, please let me know and I will look into it.
Thanks,
Nickname
EDIT: I will edit this when ideas come to me

SpectatorI love kappas suggestion for an all melee sudden death. It’ll cut down on the annoying camp fests that sudden death can become. Other than that, I dunno, just pop the server I suppose.

Also, for what it may be worth, hate the idea of Quake sounds in the server. Sight, I get so tired of hearing those on servers. But, I might just be acting the spoilsport with that.

SpectatorWell right now its just something that I am looking into, maybe only have a couple of the sounds and not the whole spectrum you know?
Oh also I will be fixing the respawn times down to 6-8 seconds.
March 14, 2008 at 5:40 pm #39633Nickname
SpectatorOk just to clarify on the quake sounds, I will most likely only use 3 levels, killing spree (5 kills), dominating (10 kills) and godlike (20 kills) so you don’t hear the sounds all the bloody time.
March 14, 2008 at 5:53 pm #39634Cacophony
SpectatorThat doesnt sound bad. As long as the server isnt spamming the sounds but just using them for a few things.

Spectator20kills? this is tf2 you run and gun!!!!!
anyone seriously ever got 20kills to one death?
March 14, 2008 at 6:04 pm #39636Nickname
Spectatorthat would make you godlike

seriously though the default settings have sounds up to like 30 kills or something.

SpectatorPraise the lord!
I found this nice handy app that will automatically generate configuration files for beetlesmod! we may get these changes implemented sooner than I thought!
Check it out if you are interested: http://www.beetlesmod.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3782.
Should make our lives much easier, also has easy settings for stuff like the sudden death melee only.

I’ve come close on numerous occassions with both sniper and demo.

SpectatorOk so I have been messing with a lot of beetlesmod stuff and I finally noticed the logo things that kappamerc was talking about so I though I would post some screens of them. I am sure we can get the WCU gaming logo thrown in there with no problem. These are from 2fort.
Also, the MOTD has been updated fully in HTML and now shows the rotation, rules, and has a link to our website and the detailed server rules and punishments that are here on the forums. Also, Liam and I are in the process of installing beetlesmod, new maps, etc, so stay tuned hopefully we will have something working soon.

Spectatorthat would be kick *edited* to have the controler logo, and Western Carolina University
March 15, 2008 at 7:50 pm #39702MasterP
SpectatorWhen you change the logo make sure you change the call for it in the plugin itself so it won’t kick people with the old logo.

SpectatorI will be leaving the plugin stuff up to Liam

SpectatorAlso wanted to comment that we do have beetlesmod installed now on the server but it is not fully configured; expect your admins to be non-functional for the next couple of days at least.

All of the configs that Nickname have requested are in and operational on the server.
Enjoy.

Spectator… even though they don’t work yet. For some reason sounds are still broken; basically there is more stuff to setup but we are heading in the right direction.

SpectatorJust want to keep you all up to date; the server isn’t loading the config file for some reason. I can go through and change cvars with rcon and get the desired output but once the server is restarted we lose it all. Liam said he would look into it when he gets a chance but he has been busy with work so we will see what happens.

I’ll look at it when I get home and we’ll work it out one way or another.

SpectatorShane is going to help me look through stuff here in a little bit.
EDIT: I would like to mark this post as a very important event in history as it is officially my 500th post.
March 17, 2008 at 4:23 pm #39836MasterP
SpectatorThe 1337th post is typically worth a prtscr.

SpectatorOk it seems that TF2 is now up and running, respawn is set at around 9 seconds and works great. Not sure if sudden death melee only is working because I need people to play with to find out, same with the q3 sounds. I will be posting admin commands shortly for those of us who need them.
March 17, 2008 at 7:46 pm #39854Bitey
SpectatorSounds good, now lets get the server popping people!
March 17, 2008 at 7:50 pm #39855Nickname
Spectatorgah, the rotation still doesn’t seem to be working correctly, but that can be fixed easily I am sure
March 18, 2008 at 12:20 am #39869Kappamerc
Spectatorshould just be a config file edit for the maps.
March 18, 2008 at 12:37 am #39871Kuros
SpectatorBe more specific…is it loading the original mapcycle?
March 18, 2008 at 8:40 am #39882Nickname
SpectatorNo, for example, it starts on cp_dustbowl so the next map should be ctf_mach4, but instead it goes to cp_gravelpit for some odd reason. We are looking into it, I am sure these little problems will be fixed by the time break is over.
March 18, 2008 at 3:00 pm #39913Nickname
Spectatorupdate: the rotation is now fully operational for real.
