SpectatorHey everybody
i was thinking about starting a Rock Band tournament during the next LAN party so if you are interested please let me know so that i can start planning everything. If you have any ideas that you would like to contribute, please do so in this thread. I will also be at the next CS meeting so if you come i should be there and you can tell me your interest and/or ideas.

Spectatorsounds fun… will rock band allow you to distinguish between good and really good if, say, i play guitar on easy and get 90+% and someone blisters away on expert and gets 80% percent? coz really they’d be better

SpectatorWhile I think a full on Rock Band tournament would be difficult to set up, I am 100% in favor of a drum tournament. That was the best mode the game had to offer.

Rock Band is better without singing. so I would suggest bands of either 1 guitar and 1 drummer, or 2 guitars and a drummer. with combined total score on a pro face off mode like that of guitar hero.
but then considering the difficulty of the drum tracks. possibly hard on guitar and medium on drums.

SpectatorMy only issue is a time constraint. Unless we run it like we did that one Starcraft tournament several LANs ago and simply make it an option of being an all day tournament.

SpectatorI think it’s possible to do, we just have to have more people running the console section of the LAN. Oh Malley is great and all but the fact still remains that he is just one guy and can’t do it all by himself. I think we’ll need a volunteer to run it at the LAN kinda of like how matt runs SSBM and Wii Bowling.
But as far as the actual competition goes I really don’t see a reason why all instruments can’t be included. We’ll have to decide on an even difficulty level for it but that’s not too hard. I think an even straight across the board hard difficulty would be fine. People will just have to practice is all

.That’s what we pretty much do with Guitar Hero 3, provide a standard difficulty for all to play. And I do have staff to run things this time. There is Shae, our VP you know. Matt got enlisted simply because Shae was sick. Shae did a good job of running the MK64 tournament though. And again, I appoint my own advisors for games to help me decide settings and etc. If we can get a good group of 8, 12, or 16 we can do a mini mock tournament to see how well it would go. File it under possible LAN games and under play testing prospects for the upcoming console meeting.

SpectatorI am in favor of testing this!
…But yeah, the singing… oh GOD, the singing…

SpectatorAll sounds good, buy yeah i think in unanimous, no singing

SpectatorI think it should all be judged, why not base this on actual performance value instead of points? I think that is how this should be done. Have three judges, Line Judge that makes sure every member of your band stays up on that green bar on the side of the screen, Performance Judge that judges how well you perform while playing, and then a score judge to factor in the score. I think it would be almost boring to watch people just sit there and zombie out like some do when playing guitar hero 3. This is Rock Band so people should be rocking out.

Call it ‘Western Idol’. -.- (Feel free to kill me.)February 20, 2008 at 8:46 am #37670Oh Malley
SpectatorLiam… No.
Bitey – Depending on how many people / bands we have do this…. do you really want to sit there, for the entire time, not doing anything but watching other people play Rock Band for a couple hours? I like the idea, but at the same time, I don’t want to make somebody sit out of doing something else.
I’ll bring it up at the console meeting. Hopefully we can figure out the best system there.
February 20, 2008 at 3:46 pm #37720Bitey
Spectatorit does depend on the amount of bands interested, if there are only 3-4 well that would be easy.
February 20, 2008 at 3:58 pm #37723Grim Dingo
Spectatori think this could be really good, but do we want to get rid of singing completely? Just wondering.
February 20, 2008 at 4:10 pm #37728Bitey
SpectatorI thought I did pretty good, someone step up and be honest and tell me I wasnt so I will know lol
February 20, 2008 at 5:28 pm #37733Oh Malley
SpectatorMm.. maybe for the sake of number of people, we might want to take out the singer. That way you have only 3 people per band rather than 4.
February 20, 2008 at 6:27 pm #37744Shingi
SpectatorWell just make it an optional 3-4 person band. So that way that bands that do have a singer can all of their members. And it wouldn’t give anyone an advantage if we are going to use Bitey’s idea.

If you say its all in the spirit of having fun than it shouldnt matter if the singer is good or bad because, if they are bad they are probably still having fun…. prob wont win but they are having fun..
and if they are good they are doing it because they enjoy it as well.

SpectatorI also believe that there may be a problem with people being on more than one team. I believe that this could be possible but i am not sure. Reason being there are two bands that i could possibly be part of. Just let me know if there has been anything new developing about the possible tournament.
