I got a bunch of ideas on how to populate the server.

    -5-10 second respawn times

-Stats (even though they aren’t really worth anything)

    -Take out the crappy maps

    -More forum advertisement (In Game)

If it isn’t populating with a rotation we could even try a 24/7 map for a while just to get some regulars. Anything is better than the server staying at 0/24 players :D.

    I don’t know, throw your 2cents here.

Respawn times are a pain in the *edited* to change but they are doable.

Stats should be doable, have to ask Kuros on that.

    Suggest some good maps! :)

We should have no trouble advertising at all, its running Mani and that has advertisements.

ORANGE_X !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best map evar!!!! if you like sniping of course… ;)

another fav of mine is lazy town…

You should probably just make it 24/7 orange_x with some sort of “fast” respawn, check that map out every night around 2-3 am and whichever server with fast respawn is playing it is usually full.

The trick to populating a server is gaining regulars via community. How many people on the CSS server do we know at least a little something about their personal lives? When I talked to App State about what it would take to save their CS server they laughed in my face (and remained dead). Community is the key. We need to go in the server and sit around until we get some players and then (as cheesy as that sounds) get to know them. Let them get to know you. Ask anyone off campus why they play on our CSS server and they will tell you it’s because of the community. In all technicality, this is the job of the council leader. Since it’s break, I haven’t really been worried about it, nor have I attempted to populate it myself more than once. It takes more than just the CL to pop a server. If Cacophony will let me, Nickname, Kappamerc and a few others, like probably Bitey, know when he’s going in, we will gladly jump in and play as we have been doing. What we need to START doing is talking to these people when they come in. Like: “How’s it going? Where you from?” This is the stuff we need to be doing.

Add me to steam friends,, whenever i play tf2 i always see whos online befor i find a server.. its always better playing with/against ppl you know

    add steam name: grifnasty

I dont mind idling with someone else, also dont think a 24/7 2fort would be bad untill we get some community or at least the top (3-4max) maps (dont say we are a 24/7 sever, b/c this will deff change)

past 2 weeks i got a good 36+hr’s in… loving life right now befor school starts back up o_0

and yea, HLstats does have a nice TF2 plugin.. people alsways wont to see if they are doing better or worse and alsways trying to improve, by having stats we will retain people from going to other servers.

I will add logs to aphrodite from TF2. It shouldn’t be too hard at all to put HLStats on TF2.

It can be a *edited* on some maps since the opposing team can instantly re-up their defense after a push thanks to quick respawn. Still, it is more fun and the servers I’ve played on that are busy usually have it. I’d say 10 minimum though, but that’s just my opinion on it.

No, they arent, but people like keeping track of things and there is no harm in it if it can be easily set up.

    Crappy maps?

    Yes!

And I’ll give a good hell no to being 24/7. At least right now. I have my fun on the 24/7 Dustbowls and 2Forts, but it gets old fast and I start craving a map change. I imagine there are plenty of people out there who feel the same way.

When I get back to school I’ll add all of you to my Steam Friends if you arent already on it and just message each of you when I’m going to hop in. Feel free to send me a message if you’re going to play as well.

I agree. I usually like to greet people when they enter a server anyway if I notice they are coming in. I played on a server once where a few minutes after I entered a message came up on screen and said “Welcome Cacophony!” Sure, it’s not much but I thought it was a nice touch and made me want to keep playing there (well, it was mostly because the people playing were awesome, but the kind welcome was nice nonetheless.)

24/7 dustbowl…my heart cries out for it… but i could go anywheres

i’m all for using wcus server but i’ve sat there alone for a while…i’ve tried bringing people in and it worked briefly, though not incredibly successfully…cultivating a community is sweet. I usually got to Mod or some other and i’ve gotten to know some of the people there, not amazingly well, but then again i don’t exactly know ya’ll like brothers, but it is a nice draw. After winter break ends i’ll try and direct myself over to your server, 2 of my suitemates might pop in too, Sergerant Pepper and William H Macy i think.

The only reason I bothered mentioning 24/7 2fort is because most Good 2fort servers seem to have a growing community. If we aren’t populating it we may as well try something new. I know that community and getting to know people is the key. It was just a suggestion. I personally don’t want the server to have to do 24/7 but I also want it populated.

——> Either way, we need a fairly large group of people to “successfully” schedule a tf2 time on the server so we can get people to populate it.

I’ve never played on a fast respawn server, 5 seconds would be crazy and probably draw more attention

The only problem with fast respawn is that is screws some maps over since the enemy can manage an almost instant re-up of their defenses after a major attack. Which can lead to some boring stalemates. Though if it helped the server it wouldnt really be all that bad.

i’m sure we can set it to a per map game config.. each map will have its own set.

You actually have to edit the map itself to do this, so it would in fact be a per map config.
