SpectatorITT we post server suggestions. In b4 adminmod. I’m already working on that one.

Spectator(near) instant respawn? less of 2fort?

Spectator2fort needs the 16sec but the CP_maps should have around 5sec for the funplay pubs

SpectatorAre there any more CTF_ maps besides 2fort? If so, possibly putting more of those in the rotation.

Spectatorok here is a little list i came up with.
5 sec respawn across the board, keeps the action rolling.
alltalk on is a great idea, makes it more fun, if the server becomes more serious later on we can change it
map limit and time is perfect right now – could be slightly longer, though i think it’s good, there was only one instance last night where i wished it was longer
Whether you realize it now, or will soon in the future, we need to get granary off our rotation. It is very very difficult to have a good game on that map, while personally i like the map, it cleans them out, almost everytime
There are a few very excellent custom maps out there already, ctf_mach2 is a good cap map, similar yet different to 2fort. cp_wolfe is a very very good attack/defend map it’s based off a wolfenstein 3d map, there are a few others out there, but i think these are the only two really worth putting on a server right now. But these two maps are fairly popular and will help draw some people in who have been playing awhile and want to try something new. Also we need more than one capture the flag map, i hate that there aren’t more.
there is no reason to put class restrictions on, not yet anyway, it’s fun when everyone jumps into a demo suit and stuff blows up everywhere…
that’s all i have right now, i’m sure i’ll come up with an edit or two after i play a bit.

I’m looking into this. I think a 5 second limit on cp maps and a 3 second limit on ctf maps would work out well.

Easily changed.

It was originally 45, but people wanted it lowered. I tried to tell them that 45 minutes goes by REALLY fast in a pub server but no one listens to me. What do I know about TF anyways?

Done.

SpectatorHe knows what he’s talking about though. And I honestly do not disagree with anything he said.
I personally prefer the shorter respawn time myself as it keeps the action going and makes sure no one is sitting around waiting. While 10-15 second doesnt seem like a very long time it still feels it sometimes.
What is the map time limit currently on? (Forgive my ignorance!) And I agree wholeheartedly with there being MORE CTF maps.
And just as way of introduction since I suppose I havent done so yet: Hello all! I’ll be your Council Leader. Hope you enjoy you play and let us know what you think!

Spectatorcacophony if you could add me to friends that’d be great we could chat a bit.
First of all, I don’t mean to sound *edited*y or anything like that, but I have been playin for over a month now since it came out beta, so I have seen how the servers run and maps and stuff. With that said…
Few things i’ve noticed now that i’ve played on the server for a few hours straight.
First thing, add about 5 seconds onto any respawn time server side. Due to the respawn mechanism where it shows your killer in a nice lil pose(don’t forget to taunt after you kill someone
) the respawn, even on instant respawn servers, is about 5 seconds.next I think it’d do best, if we can, to try and cater to a few maps individually or maybe as a whole but in categories.
1) CTF maps – short respawn is better but not neccessarily a must, you can go a little lengthier and still have good playability, not 20 secs, but 10 is not dreadful. Most map timers for 2fort are set at 30 min, it’s a good amount, allows 3 or 4 games played generally, works well.
2) PUSH/PULL maps – ie. well/hydro/(ugh)granary – 30 min timer is still good here as there are constant battles raging all over the map, any longer and a runaway will get out of hand, any shorter and your not gonna get a decent amount of rounds in if it’s a good battle. I played well and hydro both maybe 3 times tonight and we had about an average of 4-7 rounds each map, fun yet not overdoing it. Big thing for this is low respawn time, due to the push/pull feature, and the moving respawn points, you need a short respawn to be able to get out and defend if your being pushed hard. A few scouts and a few deaths with a 20 sec respawn time, and your dead in a hurry.
3)CP maps – ie. dustbowl/gravelpit/wolfe(hopefully) – respawn timer is much more crucial on these kinds of maps for both sides, need to get up and reinforce both the offense and defense. It should probably be about 3-5 seconds. Map timer is where the decision is, if we can change it, a longer map timer would highly increase fun and playability on these maps. It’s *edited* hard to both attack and defend to the last point on dustbowl in 30 min. If not *edited* near impossible. You can probably ask most people that have played for a bit, and they’ll tell you hands down the best games they have had, have been on dustbowl. It’s such fierce competition and the 3 individual maps offer great battle locations. But like I said, if your having a good game, it’s very hard to play through both sides in 30 minutes. I say raise this to 45 and we can pretty much guarantee both sides get to attack and defend to the fullest at least once if it goes that far. Same with gravel pit, a good defense can take 5,5,10 or so for each point, not leaving much time for the other team to defend. Wolfe is kind of the same, it’s harder to defend than the other two maps, but just as fun.
So that’s my opinions drawn out basically, short respawn timers across the board pretty much are needed to keep the game intense and people interested, right now if you die 4 times pretty quick, your sittin out for about 2-3 minutes and that just blows. I’d like some feedback on my comments about the CP map times and maybe if it’s even possible to change the timer for each map, i’m not sure, i may be asking too much.
oh and the only other ctf map besides mach2 out there i’ve played is battlecreek – off of the halo map – and it’s ehh… too open for good playability, it is fun, even has the teleporters to each side in back, but it’s very easy to get stuck in base and have no chance at all of getting out.

Spectatori was in a quick respawn server the other day and the one thing that was weird, was sudden death wasnt actually sudden death.. you respawned and could change class and what not. So I dont know if it was just that server of if it effects sudden death when you change respawn timers, but if it does then i’d say boo to it. because sudden death is no fun when you respawn.

Spectatori’ve been on a bunch of quick respawn servers… generally sudden death works fine… i odn’t know how that’d happen but i’ve never seen it

SpectatorMaybe if your nice to the plugin monkey he’ll fix it.

I’ll check it out tonight and see if I can work it out.
What specifically is it not doing?
October 23, 2007 at 12:55 pm #29056Cacophony
SpectatorI’m not totally sure, so Kuros probably knows better than I.
But last time I was on the map vote came up, everyone voted, and it seemed like the majority went Dustbowl. Then the vote stopped and claimed that 2Fort won with 2 votes. Clearly not the majority.

SpectatorI’m going to look at it tonight. Also if anyone wants any of the admin commands added to the shortcut system, ie, say – @cmd
, speak now.

The vote pops up like 2 minutes into the round, lasts like 10 seconds so sometimes you dont get a chance to vote, but that doesn’t matter since it doesn’t even set the next map to the voted map anyway. Pretty much broken in every possible way.

SpectatorI didn’t have time to look at this, I passed out at 8:30 from drugs. -.-
I’ll check it out as soon as I get a chance.

SpectatorCan we get 4 temp bots on (if we can) like the CS:S server has. If the server wasn’t completely empty people might join and stick around long enough to develop a regular TF2 crowd. I’d certainly join the server and knock around the bots a little while waiting. Right now though, I just get to sit with the round constantly restarting waiting to see if someone else connects.

Bot’s take up CPU that I don’t have.

SpectatorI think a RTV would be awesome for the rotation server, and help keep the peace.
