SpectatorWho was complaining about the pictures? Was it one of ours? Next time that happens give me the camera ill fix that. The warning signs are a good idea, but we can just make them sign a disclaimer. Actually a disclaimer might be a good idea, because of all all the computers there. Something that states “we are not responsible for your computers” think of what would happen if we had a power jump ..,.. I know it sounds like a *edited* thing to do, but think about it we dont have that kind of money.

Spectatorshoot,, if we pay for a power box and we get a spike with out one of those 60 breakers poping.. thats on FM (but not like they have the money eather)
kappa you have a cell phone, mark it on the calender or just read the home page.

SpectatorWe REALLY need to work on a schema that puts less computers on each surge protector and drop cord. Otherwise we are going to start a fire with those cords soon.
October 18, 2007 at 2:20 pm #28706Oh Malley
SpectatorI’d say go ahead and draw a floor plan of what we have, anticipate about the same numbers as last LAN, and go from there. Just note, everyone clusters together due to wanting to sit with friends, etc. and thus creates the high demand on insufficient equipment.
October 18, 2007 at 2:24 pm #28708Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectatori still got the math where we worked out for the MP room
we can safely run about 70 pc’s connections on the box,, its just dazie chaining the power strips when ppl plug in is what gets us. their might be 8 ppl pluged into one box outlet and maby 1 person into another. but this was the one thing i was able to figure out. last lan we dident even use about 20 outlets on the box itself… prob why we had problamo’s
i.r fixed it
October 21, 2007 at 2:02 pm #28812MasterP
SpectatorDice, I gave Kuros the estimated amount of current we were drawing across each drop cord at the last LAN. Needless to say it was well over the safe limit. High amp rated cables are expensive but we if we continue to use the current scheme we are going to have to use them.
We might get futher if we let the UC know that we are going to need more cables to spread the load or better cables to handle the load.
Also, it might be in the club’s best interest to look at getting a good power tester to rate the AC from the outlet before we plug any computers up. As it stands now, if someone’s computer gets fried, and they got a good lawyer, the club would be paying for any non-warrantied parts. Easy fix for this is a disclaimer as Adam mentioned earlier but fried supplies isn’t a reputation we need pinned on the club.
I’ll get prices and send them to Kuros for debate at the next meeting.

Spectatorthe box can handle 300 amps each pc draws about 3-4. we have around 65pc’ers it can handle the load,, we just need to make sure each line from the box doesent have more than 3 pc’s attached… the problem lies when ppl bring their own power strips and 15 ppl plug into one line = fail.
we can ask FM to see if they do carry 30amp line. but i think we got all they have.
October 21, 2007 at 10:55 pm #28866MasterP
SpectatorI didn’t say the box couldn’t handle the load but if we get much bigger it’ll get close. A 500 watt computer draws 4.2 Amps under full load. So you figure the box will run ~71 computers. We need to have a cable for every 2 tables which means we need about 12-16 of the standard orange extension cables.
I doubt FM has high-amp cables just because they don’t have any need for them. We need to ask them if we can use more of the ones they have or see if they will buy a set of high-amps to replace them with. I know the money for it is sitting around somewhere, we just have to find who has it.
If FM doesn’t want to play ball we can try asking ResLife or the UC since we DO need them if we intend to grow.

SpectatorIs it just me, or did you guys not vote on when the next LAN will be? If you did, it is very important to put this and the vote on the date and time of the LAN in the meeting minutes. Glad you voted on the games that will be played. It is very important that you guys also start contacting sponsors, it was well noticed that we didn’t seem to do so well with them at the last LAN. So come on Executives mainly Shane and Tim as this is your responsibility per the constitution! Let’s go out there and get the free stuff! Its free and we don’t have to buy anything if you contact and stay on our sponsors! Let’s not forget the banner and if you want to get an extra one made, have it done about 3 weeks ahead of time, so that you have plenty of time to hang it and get the exposure.

SpectatorWe did vote on the date at the meeting, it just got left out of the minutes. I personally tried contacting some prospective sponsors already so hopefully we can get some good loot for the next lan!

Spectatorlast i hurd all lan date for the 07/08 school year have allready been booked so we dont get jewed out by the uc again.
kuros look at the old emails they were very nicely wrote up and make our club look professional or at least better the the average sponceree contender. i’m sure these Co.’s get 100’s of emails a month asking for sponsorship we need to stand out… just follow that format and we should be getting some replys. just change the date and games and where’re golden.
however to shanes defeance 99% of tehm dont respond,,, but look at our sponcer page… they are the ones that deffently reply back and support our event. do those 1st and try others after that.
October 23, 2007 at 11:06 am #29040Ashley Faulkner
SpectatorYes, those that I wrote in the sponsors list we had actually received from before, and they did like giving to us. I know that most don’t respond I’ve been where you are now, so your not telling me or any other past executive anything new. But also keep in mind, as we have been there and done that we also know when you don’t put in the effort, but that is why you ask SOOO many companies to sponsor us that way when 75% don’t respond the other 25% do, and that 25% that do can supply more than what we need. We also need to make sure that it is clear to them that we are not just using them for prizes, that we are also contributing back to them. Make it clear to them that they are announced as a sponsor at each and every event. That they are given an advertising spot on our website, and that if they want we will put them on our banners and fliers!
We lost one sponsor because he couldn’t see any benefit to his business from sponsoring us. And it was true, we as a club did not contribute back. That is not to say that a few individuals did not go and make considerable purchases from him, but he lost more money than we received in return and that is not good business.
Thermaltake has been a great sponsor for us in the past, despite tardiness their prizes still kick butt. Let’s not forget ATI they said once we get over 200 people they would contribute bigger prizes. Lets send them some of our pictures and see if we can’t pretend we are that big. We are close, yet still 100 people away. Let’s not forget NVIDIA or however you spell that, all else fails they give great posters! Let’s also not forget ATD Distribution, that is Josh’s sponsor. Let’s either get with him to ensure continued sponsorship or lets get his contacts and we can contact them ourselves.
As a whole, THERE IS NO REASON why we can’t keep getting the sponsors that we have had in the past if we kept up our end of the bargain and sent them pictures and a brief synopsis of what happened at our LANS.
Everyone of our sponsors knows our website and knows where to look for our LANS, but it is not their job to contact us, it is ours.
Guys if you know of a sponsor that we have not contacted before, give Shane the link and information we need to contact them (i.e. LAN Sponsorship page or person with contact information to contact) Give it to Shane personally. We all want to have a successful LAN, so let’s be sure that don’t have to spend any more of the club money on prizes that we should have had donated in the first place. Come one guys if we help each other out I know we can put together the best LAN yet!

Spectator“Shane Baker proposed that the following LAN should be held December 1st, 2007 at 2:00 in the UC Grandroom
There was a vote to have the next LAN in the UC Grandroom on December 1st, 2007 at 2:00pm
The results of the vote were 18-0-0
The next LAN will be in the UC Grandroom on December 1st, 2007 at 2:00pm
The games to be played at said LAN will be decided at the next meeting pending future game releases.”
As a new rule of thumb, how about we copy previous votes that apply to current meeting minutes, that way I don’t have to keep looking these things up? Logically it should be brought forward…i.e. say
As of April 2007 meeting (of course give date), we voted that the LAN would be held December 1st, 2007 at 2:00 in the UC Grandroom. The results of the vote were 18-0-0 in favor.
The next LAN will be in the UC Grandroom on December 1st, 2007 at 2:00pm
And then continue with the vote of the games that will be played. Just a suggestion. Also, I know you guys voted on eliminating the membership dues but Adam and I came up with a great idea to keep them. someone come up with a membership card…
such as
WCU GAMING CLUB
MEMBERSHIP CARD
Presented to:
______________________________
(Their NAME GOES HERE)
Good until _____________________
(with this being 1 year from the date also 4 LANS from when they paid)
That way we don’t have to keep track of it, if they bring it they get in for free if they forget or lose it, oh well its their loss. Just a thought!
October 23, 2007 at 12:16 pm #29045Kuros
SpectatorFYI, the LAN has been pushed back to Dec 8th. We also voted to stop doing memberships, so a membership is not necessary.
October 23, 2007 at 12:16 pm #29046Bitey
SpectatorWe, could also make punch out cards, like the coffee houses do, those are easy…
October 23, 2007 at 1:10 pm #29063Oh Malley
SpectatorThe point of the cancellation of memberships was to increase club revenue. Not just because of hassle, or so I recall. We’re losing $10 per person that buys a membership. Honestly, $5 is not that much at all and I think everyone can afford it. We need the extra money to buy prizes to help attract people, thus attracting sponsors to cover what our current ones don’t (such as consoles) or get bigger and better prizes for our current tournaments.
That’s what I remember from the meeting and I think its a good idea, at least for the time being, to not have memberships.
October 23, 2007 at 7:53 pm #29136Ashley Faulkner
SpectatorAshley Britt said:
Also, I know you guys voted on eliminating the membership dues but Adam and I came up with a great idea to keep them. Please look back at my post. Also, I was the one that said that we would bring in more money logically if we charge per LAN and not do memberships. Yes it would bring in more money, but you guys shouldn’t need that extra money for prizes as you should get sponsors to donate those prizes. Refer back to my first post of the day. Not trying to *edited*, sorry.
Also remember for those student’s who don’t have jobs or parent’s supporting them, $5 per LAN is hard to come by, I remember back when Adam, Adam, and Tyler started this club we were very broke, and could barely afford taking the App students out to the Waffle House. And as Shane can attest to, Adam and I were pretty broke most of the last 2 years as well. I’m just saying just because some student’s have money doesn’t mean all students do. I know the membership dues were hard to keep track of, but it actually helps us keep with our mission. Even though I was against the idea in the beginning, we were just trying to think of ways that would make it easier on the Treasurer and future Treasurers to come. Of course we did think about this on the way home from the last LAN. So it was before it was voted on to be removed.
And if the LAN was moved, don’t you think it is a good idea to tell student’s about it? Both should have been incorporated into the minutes. The previous vote on the date, and the amend vote to change the date. Just an idea…
October 23, 2007 at 8:21 pm #29138Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectatorone of the original reasons for the membership was 1.) we did a poll at one of the lans and everyone besides lootool so like 45+ish ppl said they would pay$5-$20 per event… and 2.) it was a way to get people to come back so we have a active community in/around campus.
that the console people are going to take the biggest hit as far as attendance. we don’t have that many of them to start with and the ones i know mainly come for the food as they don’t stay for maybe an hour or 2. i just think consoles are going to see a big decrease b/c they half to fork out every event. believe>
October 23, 2007 at 11:05 pm #29160Falcon
Spectatorthank y’all for still honoring the existing 4-lan memberships, I’d be pretty hard-pressed at the moment to come up with money for much at all.
also, I’m writing down Dec. 8th… I may not be heard from again till then, so if this changes, tell Kuros to pass the word along
October 23, 2007 at 11:26 pm #29161Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectatorhopefully we can work it off falcon, thats what i count on.
