Spectatorso, my theory on the internet outage recently is a failure of the school’s DNS server. I was able to get on the cs:s server thanks to the IP address i had in my favorites. But anything with a name, like gaming.wcu.edu, nada. jack squat. nothing.
So that’s my theory, the DNS server / service is barfing.

SpectatorThe 4 Stages of NCREN Failure:
1) DNS b0rks. Can’t resolve any names.
2) New connections fail, existing connections OK.
3) Minor packet loss, some connections dropped.
4) Major packet loss, completely dead internets.

Your theory is correct. The local DNS server is crapping out.
Also, Joe says it’s DNS and since he’s the master of all things that light up and make cool noises he must be right. <_>

SpectatorThe WCU DNS administrator wishes me to inform you that he Resents your remarks about his server being the root cause of the internets issues as of late.
What is really going is our tubes are full… someone from the lottery comission is comming next week and hopes to flush out the tubes with the special education lottery balls, since no race horses are available. (if you don’t get this you need to watch more TV, or do a youtube search for Ted Stephens Daily Show)
Seriously though there have been some issues with our external firewall, bandwidth limitations (150mbps can not flow through a 100mbps pipe easily) , and most recently a flakey media converter.
All these issues are being addressed currently (we’re launching a huge advertising campaign to get more race horses on campus
) and hopefully things well get a lot better soon. As always if you have questions or concerns about this please email me with them.
Thanks,
AJ

SpectatorI’d like to think of it as too many cars on a two lane highway. Maybe if we could get like a 16 lane highway we could fit a lot more cars on it. That’s my analogy for the day.

SpectatorYoutube has been sucking it up lately, taking all the copyrighted stuff off. That’s what made youtube popular.

SpectatorNo it wasn’t. The copyrighted stuff was the very least of the attraction. Well at least to somebody who appreciates what youtube is really for.
