SpectatorYea i just got back for Asheville and i decided to play some halo 2…..well i noticed before i left for the weekend and right when i came back the internet was horrible. I played some halo 2 and also every single game it was unbearable. I had very very high ping and it wasnt even worth playing. I thought the internet was fixed but apparently not….

SpectatorNope, the internet here has officially ruined Halo 2 for me, and Gears of War is just barely bearable, although I have already spiked my 360 headset on the floor in a fit of rage, breaking it. Maybe I should tell WCU I expect them to credit my account for it. It’s the least they could do to make up for my email being dysfunctional

Spectatoryea this is rediculous and the tv messes up all the time too. Seems that if you pay for college you should at least have reliable internet and tv….at the least

And I don’t know if someone in ITS claimed to have fixed the problem or if everyone agreed that is was better and must have been fixed, but it was not fixed from what I can tell, we just had a streak where it was a little better. The lag was still a regular thing, but something you’d only notice in Halo 2 periodically. My ping was always very fickle.

Then call ITS and ask for Stephen. he added a new class for Xbox live onto the packetshaper. which fixed the problem. so see if anyone has messed with it…

Spectatorwell last time when it was “fixed” i had great ping and i could host 10 person games with no lag……..but today has been horrible. i can use my pc without a problem but playing on live is horrible and live doesnt take that much bandwidth to use…..annoying

SpectatorYup, the internet has been bad for everyone lately.
And it probably will continue to suck for the next little while too.
Once the University’s bandwidth gets upgraded, then things will hopefully change.
Between p2p, youtube, and all the other video on demand sites out there (such as ABC.com) its killing all the gaming bandwidth. p2p is limited, but http is not, and won’t be anytime soon.
oh and the email thing… a change is comming to that also, probably see a change in the fall.

Spectatorwow the internet is horrible…..i know their are issues but this is ridiculous. The internet at unca is better then this. If the internet continues like this then i will probably not be going here next year. I mean you pay 9,000 dollars a year and the tv frequently doesnt work and the reception is horrible and the internet barely works. The internet for xbl is either barely working and you cant play anything or it will not work and sometime at like 5 in the morning it works wonderfully. But unless i want to start playing at 5 in the worning and at no other time then i guess im screwed. I know gaming bandwidth is very limited but i can use my pc all day long and the connection is fine. But right when i sign onto XBL it is horrible. It doesnt take very much bandwidth to just play xbl but it seems that the wcu internet can handle pc’s perfectly but it cant handle consoles at all. Before the club starts to advertise to get highschoolers to come to WCU because of the gaming club, the internet has to be fixed. Sorry for the rant but this is very annoying and you cant say you have been through this problem unless you are playing console games on the internet. Because the console lag is much more severe. Regardless of the internet issue i will hopefully be going to another college. Western isnt right for me and the internet issue sure isnt helping the issue.

I’m off campus and have terrible problems with it. As for the internet, they are upgrading between now and next semester and that should fix most problems.
I have no clue exactly what the problem is but from what I have gathered from different sources we have a choke point that needs a bigger pipeline and that pipeline is already in the process of being setup.
Do what you will but I would say be patient or move off campus like I did. I save about $600-$800 a semester living in my house as opposed to being on campus. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility. I would say don’t think you only have the option of joining another university.

Spectatortrue but the internet is not the reason for leaving. The reason is that this school is in a area which has nothing to do. Asheville was pretty boring but Cullowhee and Sylva are unbearably boring. Thats why i want the internet to work well. if there is nothing to do i would at least like for the internet to work so i would have something to do
