SpectatorIn the field of gaming I pretty much enjoy all genre’s but FPS and RTS games are my favorite. StarCraft, Warcraft, Company of Heroes, Warhammer Dawn of War, Command n Conquer, (upcoming Supreme Commander), etc…
Currently replacing my old favorite Starcraft is Company of Heroes which is an amazing RTS. The only downside is its requirements for running the game. At any rate, just thought I’d start a topic about the genre and see what interest there is out there. (Mainly came to mind after seeing no RTS bracket at the LAN. Yes, I realize RTS tournys can take time but they are still fun and if managed appropriately time restrictions could be made or even registration caps for the bracket in order to reduce that time consumption).
Just wondering if there are any RTS fans out there and if so, what do u think of LAN tournaments in this genre?

SpectatorCommand & Conquer games are awesome. Supreme commander is looking good too…
Time would be a real issue for a tourny tho.

SpectatorA friend of mine is a really good Starcraft player.
I’ve played my share of RTS. I was an Age of Empires kind of guy though, won a few tournaments here and there.

SpectatorI’m a big fan of StarCraft, and have been for a long time.
I tried Company of Hero’s, and didn’t like it much. Oh well

SpectatorStarcraft=greatest RTS ever made.
Homeworld, Command and Conquer, and Age of Empires are really good too. Right now I’m pretty into C&C Generals: Zero Hour. I’m also interested to see how Halo Wars turns out. RTS has always been my favorite genre, but I’ve never really liked console RTS much, so we’ll see.

SpectatorI know a lot of the developers of Halo Wars personally so I know a bit of how it is handling and such, rather sweet
. Ensemble Studios ftw

SpectatorI like Company of Heroes a lot and it runs like a dream on my computer. Currently though my favorite RTS is Battle for Middle Earth II, which is actually using the C&C engine so I guess I would probably like that too

SpectatorStarcraft, the Homeworlds, Age of Empires 1-2 (not 3), the Earth series, the Battlezones, Empire Earth, Hegemonia, Empire at War, Rebellion, Warzone 2100…
Pretty much anything but Warcraft <_>
I think an RTS tournament would be a good addition to a LAN event. The only downside is that some of these games can take hours to finish so participants may have to pick between an RTS or multiple FPS.

Spectatoreh, i’ve played a few games out of westwood studios, Red Alert 2, and Emperor: battle for dune. neither ran very fast on a p2 with, what, 32 mb of ram… so needless to say they got boring. fast.
but now i kinda miss ’em…
also played some age of empires III… not too shabby

how do u know people at Ensemble? As I said, I won a few tournaments back when AoE, AoE2, etc came out. Also, I was a large contributer to a lot of fansites and such and become a moderator for one of Gamespy’s Planet sites, for Age of Empires. The admin for the Planet Age of Empires site is a good friend of mine and just recently graduated from Virginia Tech and is now working at Google. Through him, the tournaments, websites, etc I came in contact and became friends with a lot of the developers and game testers at Ensemble Studios. I’ve played other games with them such as BF2 and even was pulled into WoW by them, joining their guild which was completely full of Ensemble employees.

SpectatorThat’s cool, maybe once the LAN gets bigger, how exactly would we fit it in there with all the other stuff people want to play? I’m all for it though, would definitely bring more people.

SpectatorMost likely RTS would be their own category along with the PC shooters and console games, so we’d run for example one starcraft tourney through the whole lan.
