Mr. Freeman
SpectatorI know I’m new to the admin crew, but I play most of my games on the WCU server. That being said, I have a few suggestions. Feel free to take or ignore them, it’s just my OP.
1: Map voting needs to go. There’s nothing worse than playing Office,Dust, and Dust2 in rotation of each other. Leave Mani set to allow “extend” voting, but the map choice random if not extended.
2: Friendly fire. This is a controversial one, but it’s my personal preference to have it on. Forces players to think smarter and keeps the nade/spray down. Besides, Mani has tons of built in options to take care of greifers.
3: Open the map set up a bit to include cbbl, Havana, etc.
4: Set a ping limit of 200.
5: Consider looking into the mod which locks you in 1st person on a teammate and disallows seeing the other team on minimap when dead. This one’s kind-of minor, though, as it takes away a lot from spectating after death.
6: The biggest one is that the bot AI -has- to go down a notch. I realize that the bots could lack challenge for high-ability players, but to everyone I speak with they’re just extremely frustrating. On their current settings they wallhack repeatedly, and do all sorts of other nasty things. Additionally, it’s pretty gimp for the CTs as the bots have to be micromanaged while you’re being hunted.
7: Keep hosting this awesome server! We all really appreciate it!
I realize some of these things I can do as an admin, but they’re things I don’t want to change without going through you guys (ping limit, etc.)
Thanks for hearing me out.

if their is not a map vote, then all teh maps have no choice to be in rotation…?
2: Friendly fire. This is a controversial one, but it’s my personal preference to have it on. Forces players to think smarter and keeps the nade/spray down. Besides, Mani has tons of built in options to take care of greifers.
I know their are plent of mods that take care of team killing, however it gets extremly annoying when you keeped getting TK’ed. also spaming is part of teh fun

3: Open the map set up a bit to include cbbl, Havana, etc.
I liek that
4: Set a ping limit of 200.
I like that
5: Consider looking into the mod which locks you in 1st person on a teammate and disallows seeing the other team on minimap when dead. This one’s kind-of minor, though, as it takes away a lot from spectating after death.
This is a Pub, not an official cal match or anything, i liek watching other users. as long as they can not speak or type there the other players are (aka ghosting) i dont see anything wrong with it.

I dont consider myself a pro or anything but i did liek how the bots were set. yes sometime its ridiculous but when their is less than 4 people in the server is teh only time bots are in their. i liek teh pratice. but maby can could be turned down a notch.. but not too much…
7: Keep hosting this awesome server! We all really appreciate it!
keep making post, and the server full and its gonna stay up
To conclud i have not been able to play the server but a few times (maby 8hr’s or so total) i’m new to the entire HL2 engine and the game that are supported. however you will see me more and more in their, whenever adambomb gets his net back up and i can no longer use his account…

It was my understanding that the selection could be randomized.

Not a big issue, more of a personal preference. =)

Yeah, a minor thing like the ff that I don’t feel -too- strongly about.

It’s just -highly- aggravating, like you said, when it’s you vs 2 or more bots. It’s not that they’re difficult, they’re cheap.

Maybe.

Friendly fire on pubs is a disaster.
3: Open the map set up a bit to include cbbl, Havana, etc.
Sure.
4: Set a ping limit of 200.
Absolutely. I can’t remember if we have a ping kicker already, but if we do, lowering the limit would be good.
5: Consider looking into the mod which locks you in 1st person on a teammate and disallows seeing the other team on minimap when dead. This one’s kind-of minor, though, as it takes away a lot from spectating after death.
This is a pub. People like to look around.

I set the bots high so people would stop stacking against them just to win repeatedly. Then the next guy that had to join the bots’ team would get screwed, because the bots suck *edited*. This way, there’s a bit of a challenge.
7: Keep hosting this awesome server! We all really appreciate it!
I plan on it

SpectatorI suppose I’ll use the same format:
1: Map voting needs to go. There’s nothing worse than playing Office,Dust, and Dust2 in rotation of each other. Leave Mani set to allow “extend” voting, but the map choice random if not extended.
map voting keeps the server populated, I can’t count how many times 1.6 pub drops 15 players because some admin changed the map and those 15 players didn’t want to play the new map.
2: Friendly fire. This is a controversial one, but it’s my personal preference to have it on. Forces players to think smarter and keeps the nade/spray down. Besides, Mani has tons of built in options to take care of greifers.
FF has to stay, see answer from gxti
3: Open the map set up a bit to include cbbl, Havana, etc.
i’m down with that
4: Set a ping limit of 200.
HL2 engine is a bit more demanding than hl, give them an extra 50 ms. So my vote is for 250. The only time I’ve ever lagged in the source pub is when my own junk started freaking out in the background.
5: Consider looking into the mod which locks you in 1st person on a teammate and disallows seeing the other team on minimap when dead. This one’s kind-of minor, though, as it takes away a lot from spectating after death.
I like it the way it is.
6: The biggest one is that the bot AI -has- to go down a notch. I realize that the bots could lack challenge for high-ability players, but to everyone I speak with they’re just extremely frustrating. Being new to CS and especially new to Source, I’m down with that. Makes me feel better about myself knowing that I can beat fake opponents.
7: Keep hosting this awesome server! We all really appreciate it!
consider it done

Well yeah, but he’s saying pick a map cycle and stick with it. He does have a point – maybe it could be an experiment.

This may be a bit to early for me to be commenting, but i’ve only been playing cs:s for around a week and I still don’t find them too overly good. They can shoot long range like none other, but other than that i’d say they’re a reasonable level…

Exactly. They aim really well, but they’re still extremely dumb. Use your brain, or if you left yours at home, use flashes.
January 12, 2007 at 1:44 pm #15088Falcon
Spectatorof course, just for the sake of smack talk it could be because i have a pretty thorough background in UT2004. Apparently that means skills, coz I just walked into the server and if I’m not mistaken I’m already up in the top 30 rankwise. but as I was saying, all it takes is turning a corner and firing at the first thing that twitches. really. even spraying these bots instead of short bursts is pretty effective. Just they respond well if you give them time. so my vote: their intelligence is good ’nuff for me

Spectator4: Set a ping limit of 200.
I like that
this one i dont like isea of… my ping is uaualy at 100+ (unknown reasons, other servers its below 30
) but whenever ppl come on with high pings to my knolage, it hasnt affected anyone. This also restrics some ppl from coming on obviously
but all other questions i like the idea ofJanuary 16, 2007 at 1:23 pm #15145gxti
SpectatorSource has far better lag compensation than 1.6, so laggy players don’t interrupt gameplay very much. I would say leave it at 400.

Some are fine, some are not.
January 30, 2007 at 12:50 am #15638cerevox
SpectatorThe only really laggy person I have seen on the server was Rocket_G and he was only at 270 something and it seemed that there were no problems with him. There really isn’t anything wrong with the way the ping limit is now. The bots are just like all bots, they are like bloodhounds, stupid beyond reason but once they catch site of your head its game over. Some map voting is good, voting constantly on everything blows. FF is really fun when its on, as long as you don’t have tards randomly spraying and killing thier team mates all the time. As long as a server is a pub, and has a high number of random people coming in FF isn’t such a hot idea. I used to play on one server that could was pub and could do FF just fine, but it was because the admins had a finger hovering over the slay/kick/ban button. If FF is on then the admins really need to start hitting hard on offenders or some moron will frag the whole team and spawn and other such crap. Locking to 1st person view for specing is, in my honest and humble opinion, incredibly annoying. I don’t wanna be stuck watching some moron crouch jumping a some tiny hidden camping spot with the bomb while the whole CT team searches for him. More maps are good, seeing new things excericises the brain. Makes CS actually have a real life benifit. Plus its fun!

Spectatorhow about “votekick” and “voteban” commands?
sometimes there are hackers or afk players when there are no admins on, and its really annoying to have them in the server…
February 1, 2007 at 9:29 am #15767Bitey
Spectatorpossibly votekick, because that way the person may still come back, but voteban = no
February 1, 2007 at 9:44 am #15768Phonetically Phamous (dice
Spectatorvotekick might be a good idea,, however once we get a full admin roster, their will be someone in their 90% of the time like our 1.6 server
February 1, 2007 at 2:34 pm #15787Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
SpectatorI agree with NoDice, I don’t believe we should implement votekick or voteban. There is always going to be someone who doesn’t want another person in there or is upset with a person. If you need an admin and there isn’t one on the server you can always join the IRC channel and one of us will come assist.
