-the 20 gauge is good if you find yourself in a bind, but you have to remember it is LOUD; and the sound will likely draw more zombies to you.

-The bat is going to require a lot of effort for minimal damage unless you can completely smash the zombie’s skill (breaking its bones won’t help you). Remember that destroying the brain is the only thing that can kill a zombie.

you should use these as initial weapons only until you can replace them with something better. A machete would be a good hand combat weapon, or perhaps an axe. For range, realistically a bow and arrow or silences sniper rifle would be best, but chances of finding such are slim, so better to just keep the 20 gauge until you happen upon a quieter solution, whatever that may be, unless you do manage to get on a boat or someplace else where firing a weapon would not draw zombie attention.

For travel, you should use a bicycle. They are silent and can be used on most any terrain. The best defense you have against zombies is keeping them from discovering you, so moving in silence is paramount, as one zombie will attract others with its moaning. Cars and trucks will probably only serve you temporarily as roads will become inpassible plus they generate noise (and will thus attract zombies). Plus then you have to worry about finding fuel, which, assuming you are heading to a remote location, could prove difficult. Plus no telling if refueling stations will still be usable after a few days as most will dry up from people stockpiling fuel. Like I said, stick with a bike.

Ok now on to the survival kit. We need to add some things or you will not survive long. Here is a list, hopefully you have most of these in your house already:

* Lightweight poncho for protection against wind and rain

* Large plastic trash bag as poncho or expedient shelter roof

* Waterproof matches

* First aid kit with:

o bandages

o sterile gauze pads

o adhesive tape, and gauze tape

o medical tweezers

o antibiotic cream

o Rubbing alcohol

o suture kit

o aspirin

* Water purification tablets for areas where water is available but may be contaminated.

* Meal replacement bars/protein bars, at least a 24 pack (they are lighter and take up less room than canned foods)

* High power LED flashlight (able to have batteries replaced, and carry an extra battery)

* Compass

* Fixed-blade knife, or multitool knife such as Swiss Army knife

* Change of underwear and socks (you will regret it if your only pair gets wet and you need to stay on the move)

As for grouping, once you have a plan for a permanent location, you are best if you get in a group of 3-4 people. This will allow people to split tasks such as staying on guard for zombies, construct shelter, gather food/supplies etc. You should avoid getting in larger groups as they are more likely to incur dissent among the ranks or have stupid people do stupid things and cause you all to become zombie feed (plus more people means more people to split supplies among). Make sure the people you choose are smart and don’t do retarded things (like break out their guitar and start a sing a long). You need survivors over friends. If you need to save one member of your family that is fine but you are not having a family reunion here, you are trying to survive for the future.
