Price check from the print shop should be free, if you need more than the 2XX free copies we get you’re much better off printing your own. You’ll save money. This is why we typically had 2 fliers, a color and a black/white. We routinely got free copies from random departments and black/white printing is always cheaper on your own printer than paying the school. You can still get free copies from department printers but it’s tricky and not really worth the hassle.

If the print shop in any way even pretends to want money from us go talk to Keith.

If you do need more fliers and the print shop wants more than a couple pennies per copy you’re better off driving to walmart and buying a black cartridge and some cheap paper and doing it yourself. Talk to Tallgeese in advance and he can let you record expenses and the club can pay you back.

When they outsourced the print system it should have reduced the cost to print, at least that’s what the school thought using their imaginary form of business economics. I don’t think they realize that outsourcing a local service after you’ve bought all the equipment, and then losing all the equipment in the agreement, is a giant waste of money. Whoever had that bright idea should have their breeding rights revoked for extremely stupidity as should whoever in management stupid enough to believe that losing 100+ very expensive printers could, in any way, even remotely save money. Even if you saved $.05 per copy, if you lost a hundred $800 printers in the deal you have to print 1.6 million copies before you start saving money. Not only that but the company you outsourced to is a subsidiary of Ricoh, which has the highest per-page cost in the laser print industry and some of the highest energy usage rates. Read as: it’s not cheaper to the contractor so it won’t be cheaper to you. Congratulations, you saved a penny by paying 2. Most of what IT does behind the scenes is either stupid or textbook stealing, like how they had a 400% profit margin on Office03 and WinXP and a 100% profit margin on Vista, Office07, and Windows7. I mean I know screwing students is fun and all but charging students 5x more for something than you bought it for? Whoever set that up is the one who should’ve been calling the shots on this print thing. When I inquired about the pricing markups a few years back I was told I didn’t know what I was talking about. When I then pulled out a copy of the pricing schedule straight from the Microsoft agreement I promptly had my access to the staff network share revoked. I mean yeah I shouldn’t have had it to begin with but if you don’t like people finding and shining light on your dirty secrets you probably shouldn’t be doing shady crap to start with and if you suck at hiding stuff you definately don’t have any business doing that sort of thing. Giving an anal retentive student with a ton of free time access to the IT division network share is just asking for trouble. It’s also a violation of the WCU network security policy but hey who’s counting *edited* ups at this point. There’s just so many, like a certain IT department agreeing to universal student wages then hiring some at a higher rate than others already working there. Or ignoring missing money. Or paying students from one department using the wage allotments of another department. Or putting an IT repair shop with tons of virus infected machines on the same subnet as an entire IT department with no firewalls.

Maybe ask Keith if the print costs really did go down with the new agreement (not a chance in hell) and if they did see if we can get more copies. The answer’s going to be no but it can’t hurt to ask anyway.
